Do You Eat With That Mouth? Blessing of the throat

Blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. This ought not to be.
Two white taper blessed candles were held up to the throat, grasped in an X-shape after mass today. My priest who gave the blessing told everyone to respond (when blessed) by saying Amen only, and nothing else.
St. Blaise, protect us from all evil, physical and spiritual, which may attack the throat.

My pilgrimage group had mass in the St. Blase church in Dubrovnik last year. St. Blase's body is in a glass case there. (kind of disconcerting) We all received the blessing of the throat at the end of mass. Two days later I was home and I had the worst sore throat I have had in years. I ended up sick and missing a week of work after a two week vacation. I am sure it is just a coincidence and was a result of the flying but, I may skip the day in Dubrovnik this year. :)

There are a lot of Saints bodies that are displayed that way. I would agree, it's a little strange to see, but it's not really uncommon, as far as saints go.
Yes, I guess it was just my first one. I am eternally grateful that his head appeared to be attached but, you could tell it had been severed.

Yes, hopefully he did not feel it for very long. I tried to link a photo I took of him but, it doesn't work and I can't figure out how to reduce it enough to post it. I have no clue with photo stuff, can barely operate my camera.

views of uncorrupted bodies after they have died shown in the above link. according to this web page; Incorruption is when the body does not decay at a normal rate. Many times, years after death, these bodies are found to be in tact and almost lifelike. With The uncorrupted saints is the presence of a pleasant odor about them.
it also notes that St Silvan the Martyr in the Church of St Blaise, Dubrovnik- Croatia is entombed there, not St Blaise. for what it's worth.

the parish i went to this morning, ditched the feast day since it fell on a sunday so i didn't get my blessing. since this happens to be one of my favorite feast days of the entire year, i left my superbowl party to go to the only parish in the area that i knew was offering blessings and caught the end of Mass right when they gave the blessing.
before you think it's a big deal that i left the party, i don't care about football. i didn't watch a single play the entire game. i didn't even know who was playing until i got there. i just go for the party aspect. ;)
