I'm trying to find out which of the Saints who were involved in wars. Right now I know of these:

St. Louis IX
St. Nuno de Santa Maria
St. Francis of Assisi

In modern times, there is a "cause" to seek beatification for Fr. Vincent Cappodano, a US Military chaplain who died in a firefight in Vietnam.

St. Ferdinand, King of Spain - older cousin of St. Louis; their mothers were sisters (Louis' mother is Bl. Blanche of Castile). Ferdinand is usually portrayed in armor, with a sword, and wearing a crown; St. Louis often is, too.

Also, St. Martin of Tours, I think... didn't he lead the army that stopped the invasion of France by the Moors, or something?

Most saints who were military are portrayed with a sword.

There's also a priest whose cause for sainthood is getting some recent airplay - he was a diocesan priest who became a military chaplain, I think during WWII - Fr. Kapuan. I can't remember his first name, but I think there's a high school(?) in Wichita(?) named after him. Don't quote me on that, but you might want to Google him.

Oh! and one of the saints Stainislaus in Poland. One is St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr; I think the other one might have been a king of Poland and all kings (back then) were military to one degree or another.

Resurrexi - This is the guy I was referring to above, and you found an article about him possibly working a miracle. He's not a saint...yet, but he was in the military. dI got the spelling of his name wrong, aabove, but I was close.

"Kapaun, a U.S. Army chaplain who died in the Korean War, grew up in Pilsen, Kan."
