I have recently been inspired to 'adopt' two young ladies to be my spiritual children. They are both at very troubled times in their lives and it seemed they needed someone to be there for them.
I have been thinking about it though, and is there anything specifically that I should do? I know that many adopt spiritual children without letting anyone know, but I have no idea if there is any etiquette for this kind of stuff. I have been praying for them, and when I get a chance I will see about having Masses said for them as well. Other than that, I'm at a loss.
Do any of you have spiritual children you have adopted? What do you do for them? What would you suggest?

St. Therese spiritually adopted the murderer, Pranzini, without his knowledge. I think it's a very necessary practice, especially in today's world. Prayer is important to the soul. There are those who don't pray themselves, and so, we, as Christians should pray for them. St. Padre Pio had many spiritual children that he prayed for during his time on earth, and I believe that he still continues to pray for us in heaven. :)) I don't think it's necessary that you tell the two young women that you have adopted them spiritually. Just start praying for them and be the witness to the faith that they so desperately need. Like Jesus said, don't broadcast what you are doing. He'll reward you fully in heaven. :) It's also a great way to become accustomed to praying for spiritual daughters and sons when you become a nun. ;)

I know the Novena that St. Padre Pio used for his spiritual children:

This is asking for Padre Pio's intercession for your spiritual children:

This is for anyone who would like to learn more about the beloved saint of Pietrelcina:

It reminds me of this prayer that Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen came up with (which I recite daily.)

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted and which is in danger of being aborted.
