This information was posted in a 12-31-08 church bulletin from Kensington, CA:

KENSINGTON CARMELITES: As most of you know, our dear
Carmelite Sisters left the Kensington Monastery on Monday, December 15th to
live at another monastery in San Francisco. However, that does not mean that we
cannot still communicate with them. If you wish to send cards or prayer requests to them, you may write to them at:
Kensington Sisters; Carmelite Monastery
721 Parker Avenue; San Francisco, CA. 94118

This community followed the 1990 Discalced Carmelite Constitutions, and was very strict and traditional. The latter type of observance does not always equal a great influx of young vocations...

I wonder what the monastery building is now being used for. Is there anyone on PM from the Bay area who can find out?

The SF Carmel is lovely.... but I wonder how they're all going to fit?

They're bilingual... Spanish/English. I believe they pray the office half the time in English, half the time in Spanish. At least they did when I visited there 4 years ago.

The convent is right across the street from the University of San Francisco (where I graduated from). I used to walk by it all of the time. It's a very pretty place.

I stayed a week with these Carmelites last June and they now have 3 wks of English in the Divine Office and at rec and then 2 wks in Spanish for both.

The Spanish speaking nuns now sit at the parlor grille for an English teacher that comes in a few days a week to teach them English! There is a big black board in the parlor against the wall. They are FANTASTIC Carmelites! Very traditional and beautiful.

Laudem, been keeping you in my prayers - how's the journey going, anything new?
