The Short answer is that the High Mass is sung and the Low Mass is not. How specific are you wanting this answer?

Well, if you had a medium length answer that would be good. A church here in Indianapolis does Low Mass during the week and High Mass on Sundays; I'm going next week to the Low Mass with a friend of mine. I just wasn't quite sure the difference. Are there other differences I should know about before going?

Hi! My name's Katie, I'm 19 and I'm new here. I figured this would be a good topic to introduce myself, since I attend an Indult Tridentine Latin Mass every Sunday.

As popestpiusx said, the difference between High and Low Mass would be that there is alot more singing involved during High Mass. The High Mass is also more solemn; the priest uses incense, and it generally lasts a little longer than the Low Mass does.

Kate

Thanks, Kate and popestpiusx.

Thank you! Nope I'm not...I just thought the Marine's motto "Always Faithful" would be a cool screen name ;)

Cool. I have a brother who's a Marine, so I've got a couple shirts with that motto on them.

Anyway, great to have you here.

I thought Low Mass also had less candles lit, like 4 instead of 8 or something like that. Just my opinion, Low Mass is too quiet if the priest doesn't have a microphone in a big church and it's hard to follow the sound of bells to know when to turn the page.

The bells tell you when to turn the page?

I've been to Holy Rosary in Indianapolis a number of times to hear Fr. Duvalius' low Masses (usually on Saturday morning). He's a good priest, stick close to him. ;)

Yes, Pio, that's where I'll be going. It's only a few minutes from where I live. Are you from Indiana?

well what I meant is to show where the priest is actually praying at if you are following along with the Latin in a missal. If you are always on the wrong page or lost in the translation because the priest is talking so fast (me) it tells me when to turn if needed and where to look and pick up reading/praying again :D

Yeah, I'm from God's country (aka Indiana), down around Evanstucky...er, EvansVILLE. ;) I have relatives in Zionsville and when I stay at their place, I usually make an effort to get to Holy Rosary.

I stopped over at Holy Rosary yesterday looking for some information on the new Catholic radio station here in Indianapolis and stayed for Mass; it wasn't Latin, but still was beautifully done.
