First, each person must strive for the perfection of one's character
人格完成 に努むる こと
hitotsu, jinkaku kansei ni tsutomuru koto

First, each person must be faithful and protect the way of truth
誠の道を 守ること
hitotsu, makoto no michi wo mamoru koto

First, each person must endeavour (fostering the spirit of effort)
努力の精 神を養る こと
hitotsu, doryōku no seishin wo yashinru koto

First, each person must respect others and the rules of etiquette
礼儀を重 んずるこ と

First, each person must refrain from violent behavior (guard against impetuous courage)

The Niju Kun:


Karate-do begins and ends with rei

Karate stands on the side of justice
空手は義 の補け
