i am upset guys eerr i mean girls. You know i have been talking about going to the Dominican monastery down i LA. well i really feel that is where God is calling me right now i feel such utter joy and peace about the whole thing like none i have ever felt before. But as my happiness and excitement and joy and peace grows my mother becomes more and more adimant(sp?) that this is not what God is calling me to. She says she feels no peace about it at all. it makes me want to cry all the time. i dont know what to do. because my priest and my sister both are like "you know God uses parents to speak to us" so i am sad and depressed alot about this i dont know what to do. I can't bear not have my mother support me. sad.gif sadder.gif Please pray. I realize that God may not be calling me to this place but right now this is where i feel He is telling me to go. oh dear it makes me so unhappy.

Hey Karin!! Tee hee... You are in my prayers... but you know that, but yea, I am praying for you and your vocation all of the time. I pray that Gods will be done and that I meet you in August!!! Yay!!! If it is Gods will it will be done. Love in Christ, Marjorie.

I told my mom. She took it better than I thought. She was visibly nervous when I told her, but she's been easing into it. We're going to Casa Maria March 11-14, and I know she will love it. Once she's totally on board, then my dad will be, too.

I'm delivering my application when i go down!

Jen

FutureNunJMJ
that is great news! I'm glad things went well! I pray that all will go well for you!
daugher-of-Mary
That is WONDERFUL news!!! Many prayers for you, Jen!
karin
that is so exciting. i have almost finished filling out an application...
Totus Tuus
That's awesome news! I hope your mom will love it there. If she doesn't love it, she will love Sr. Louise Marie... and that solves everything happy.gif

I'll be UP there in April smile.gif

That's great. My prayers are with you.

My mom will love Sr. Louise Marie for sure! I think she's now excited about the whole vocation thing. It's still a bit foreign to her, but she's definitely getting better. I know that our trip down there will be pretty cool. Not to mention, my really good friend who is joining the Martyrs is coming down for retreat that weekend, too, so all is good!
FutureNunJMJ
wonderful! Today I got a questionarie for personal interview from the Poor Clares... I might visit them during the first few days of Holy Week smile.gif I pray that your vocation may be fully embraced by your entire family!
Totus Tuus
Oh oh! Which Poor Clares?
FutureNunJMJ

Do you have to fill out an application BEFORE you even go visit? What kidda questions do they ask? I think the Cistercian nuns have you fill out something before your first visit also.

My prayers for you. I hope you find if this is where Jesus is calling you. Weren't you considering the Dominican Sisters at Lockport?
jgirl
I think it's pretty standard to fill out a PQ before you visit so that they can get a better idea of where you're coming from and who you are. I know the Martyrs in Alton have people fill them out before they visit overnight if it isn't for a retreat. That kind of serves as your application, too, if you ask to enter (you still have to get the physical and stuff like that).

I didn't have to fill anything out before I visited the Sister Servants.

I still am considering the Dominicans as well, but I just want to visit a few other communities. It's not really an application, it is just so that they know somethings about me before I come to visit for an interview. THey ask lots of basic questions about family, education, spiritual life, health, along with other questions used in interviews. They just want to have a base for them to go off of so the visit is more fruitful and there can be talk about deeper things smile.gif There are several questions and you don't have to answer them all. There were some questions about my parents, like their hobbies, qualities/characteristics, and what qualities of theirs would I like to emulate. Many of the questions are much the same as the ones Sister Mary Imelda asked and talked about. smile.gif
Totus Tuus
I've filled out a questionaire before (for a convent at Our Lady of Ephesus or something...). It was almost exactly the same as the forms I filled out before going to summer programs with the Daughters of St. Paul these past four years. Like FutureNun said, it's just really basic questions about yourself.
karin
yeah the application for the nuns in lockport is 60 pages! hehe pretty long.

wow! that is a lot!
Totus Tuus
Whoa. I don't know how long the application is for the PCPA's... is that just for the Aspirancy?
jgirl
Double whoa! 60 pages!?! Mine was just the basic PQ type questions, talk about my motives for wanting to enter religious life, two letters of recommendation, getting hospital records, physical and dental exam.

And I thought mine was a lot!
karin
it is for the aspirancy but alot of times girls who go for the aspirancy stay afterwards for trhe postulancy so it doubles for the application to the postualncy too.
littleflower+JMJ
wow theres applications.....thats cool!!

karin
yeah i guess it is

Praise Jesus! After much worry and nervousness, I finally worked up the courage to speak with my parents about visiting the Cistercian nuns this summer, with great help from Angela's prayers, I'm sure!! After a long discussion, they agreed that it would be alright for me to go. I will be spending three days with the Cistercians in June! Praise GOD! happy.gif
Totus Tuus
YAY!! That's wonderful news biggrin.gif
FutureNunJMJ

biggrin.gif Thanks! I know I am excited because I leave Friday!!! boldyellow.gif I love Nuns!

I'm not sure it's totally official (my mom says it is, even though I said I want to wait until I get the "list"), but I take my comps in Normal IL on August 13th, and right after, my family will start driving to Birmingham, AL. If all goes well, I will probably be donning a brown vest and skirt early in the morning on August 15.

PRAY HARD! Now, I am focusing on the loans. I hope that since I have a date, benefactors will be more willing to give (I can apply through Fraser Family Foundation and one of my household sister's in-laws may help me out).

I'm uberexcited!

Jen
jgirl
Oh yeah...

My mom absolutely LOVED the Sister Servants!
crusader03
My parents met some of the Sister Servants when they (the sisters) were out in Oregon last year. I have a good friend who spent a few days down in AL with them, just this past month. biggrin.gif
Totus Tuus
Whoa so much good news! That is so awesome, everyone, especially JGirl happy.gif Angela- yay! Poor Clares! Yay!

I'm growing more and more excited for April 11th, when I make my trip up to Alabama to see the PCPA's (and Sister Servants).
daugher-of-Mary
Jen!!!! That is so wonderful!!! Many prayers for you. THe Sister Servants are such a beautiful bunch of brides biggrin.gif
jgirl
My mom has been telling everybody how amazing the Sister Servants are. She told my grandma about it, and she decided to give me $1000, either for loans or health insurance.

YAY! I'm so glad my mom came down to visit!

Jenny
FutureNunJMJ
ohmy.gif Wonderful! I am sure that will be a HUGE help!!!!
FutureNunJMJ
Eeep! I'm going to be interviewed for a local paper in Rockford just for visiting the Poor Clares! I am super nervous and I need to call the reporter back... :gulp:
Totus Tuus
Coool!! Don't be nervous, just be honest smile.gif
crusader03
Best of luck!! Our Lord is amazing in how He provides opportunities to witness! Trust in Him! wink.gif

I have to post a quote in here for the ladies as soon as I get a chance, from the Diary of St. Faustina. It's pertinent to our discussions, I think. Jesus told her that as a sister, she owes Him more dedication to her vow of chastity than even the angels, because He has bound her closer to Himself than He has the angels. Anyway, the words in the diary are much prettier than mine, so when I get home I'll post 'em. Have a great day biggrin.gif
FutureNunJMJ
Guess who's back from visiting the Poor Clares! It was such an awesome visit, but I have to go write some letters before I can share more about the visit wink.gif

I've spent four summers (well, a week or two out of each summer) with the Daughters of Saint Paul in Boston, but I'm definitely not called there.

I love the Daughters of St. Paul but as you said, I do not feel called there either. I have gotten to know them very well though, those who live in St. Louis.

Does Sr. Laura live in St. Louis?

Hey guys... gals... I am posting to ask for your prayers from April 11-20 when I will be discerning with the PCPA's in Hanceville and in Birmingham. I'll be offline for the next nine days so I'm posting it early. God bless!
FutureNunJMJ
Have a blessed visit! happy.gif

I have a bit of a bummer (for me at least...) Appaerently, I don't think I will be able to enter anywhere until after I have graduated from college... so three more years until I can do anyhting about my vocation, but until then, I can keep in touch and discern contnually... and hopefully get myself to a Catholic College so I can at least be somewhere here I feel at home...
