Hello everyone!
I just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been lurking at phatmass for a while now; ever sice I stumbled upon it by mistake.
I'm just soo happy to find people besides myself who are discerning their vocation. I'm from Sweden, and there aren't exactly a whole lot of catholics here, so meeting people to talk to about vocations or the monastic life isn't always easy. Though I know a couple.
I've been discerning for a few years now ( even since before I converted to catholicism from the lutheran church ) and I'm strongly leaning towards the Benedictines.
Is there anyone else who is similarily (?) inclined?
Anyway, I just thought I'd say hi!

Welcome to PhatMass FutureScholastica!
As for myself, LORD HELP ME I AM SO CONFUSED! I was so sure about my vocation and now I have no idea what I want. I'm not even sure I want to be a Sister anymore!

I've found a convent in Sweden which I just adore. I've been there for a couple of retreats and I can't wait to go back.
My problem isn't knowing where to go, but rather if I should go. I know what I want, but I don't know if it's God's wish for me to become a sister, or if I'm focusing on my own desire and just interpret it as beeing God's wish.
Any thoughts?

HELLO. WELCOME And we know how you feel.
I like the fact that you are in Sweden, my Grandfather was from Sweden.
I was discerning the religious life but now I'm not.
Short version: God's ways are not our ways.

Oh brother.

Greetings, my dear sisters in Christ! I haven't been around the boards recently because I've been incredibly busy with work, school, and extra-curriculars and I've been really stressed out lately. I really need a week of silent retreat- some serious one-on-one time with Jesus!
The Cistercians have invited me to come spend a week with them over Christmas break this year! This is exactly what I need, and the answer to my prayers. I come to you all to beg for your prayers. It's not certain that my family will be in town or that my parents will allow me to go. Please pray!

Yeah, I just feel completely worn-out. There's so much pressure now to do well on the ACT and to start looking at colleges. My parents are not going to like the fact that I"m not planning on going to college. That's been really stressful, on top of a great many other things. Any prayers would be much appreciated!!

I visited the Carmelites on Saturday for about an hour and a half. They were quite wonderful, but the monastery and such was built in the 60's and well... The Sisters were wonderful though! The real sense of enclosure was totally amazing!

Tell me a little bit more about your feelings in regards to the enclosure. When I visited the Dominicans Nuns back in May, I found speaking through the grille a little weird at first. My first thought was "Hey, I have seen this on T.V. but it didn't quite prepare to speak with Sr. Rose through the grille. However,as we continue to meet, it didn't seem to be in away or bother me as much.

Well, I am quite used to talking through a grille becuase I have visted the Poor Clares on many occasions and they have a grille, but the Carmelites had a tiny little 'hole' in the wall with thick metal bars with a black cloth behind it. WOW. I was a little taken aback by it and I was beginning to think I would have to talk to Rev. Mother through this type of grille as well! I think it was the fact that you couldn't see the Sisters, but you heard them and knew they were there. It was quite an interesting feeling at first, but I kind of laughed it off (inside of course, I didn't want to make too much noise!)

First of all, it's not so much what you want, it's what God is inviting you to. In my experience, God speaks loud and clear when it comes to His Will in His Timing. That's the sometimes tough part -- waiting for when God is ready to tell you.
In the meantime, be at peace and live life to the fullest (John 10:10)! Your life experience now will help you in your future vocation, whatever it may be. So stay close to Jesus and try to be a saint wherever you are .... today!
God bless all of you!

Kind of similar the feeling I get after going to Adoration.

Hey my sisters,
I haven't posted in awhile, but I need your prayers big time! My mom is currently in school 4 hours away from home (she lives there during the week and comes home when she can). School will last for 3 years for her, and I don't feel free to leave the rest of the family by themselves until mom is home again. There is a slight possibility that an opening for a residency closer to home might come up. We miss her so much, and really need her here. If this residency works out, then I would be free to enter religious life upon highschool graduation. PLEASE pray for my family and I! Many thanks!

Hiya girls,
What do you do when it seems that you no longer want to go to university? *gulps*
I even won a scholarship for next year, and now I'm thinking that maybe God would like me with Him, NOWish....
Ugh....I'm confused, even after having spent a fantastic hour at Adoration.

Well, love and prayers all.

If Catherine of Siena is the saint full of passion for the Blood of Christ, the great St. Teresa is the woman who goes from "mansion" to "mansion" to the threshold of the great King in the interior castle and Therese of the Child Jesus is the one who, in Gospel simplicity, travels the little way, Clare is the passionate lover of the Crucified Christ, with whom she wants to identify absolutely...

Oh my goodness! I am sooo happy you are visiting them! They gave my school a Lot of prayers when it was getting off the ground, and it is called Mt. Carmel Academy in thier honor. We collect food for them and it's brought out there monthly. The Monastery is absolutely gorgeous! I was able to tour it before the nuns moved in there. You deffinetly have my prayers, and I'd love to hear about it when you get back!
