Ave Maris Stella will be doing a Three Month Special Series, (One a month) on religious founders, starting in may.

If you could help me out with founders of some well known religious founders, I'd appreciate it.

So far I have:

Fr. Benedict Groshel (Franciscan Friars of the Renewl)

Fr. Marciel Maciel (Legionaires of Christ and Regnum Christi)

Mother Angelica (Sisters of Perpetual Adoration)

That is what I have, so far.

Now I need people to do some research and write a 300-600 word bio on each. I will Marciel Maciel becasue I like the Legion!

Thakns for your help.

I will be doing Six founders in each, so I need about 18 founders in all for hte special series.

Thanks a lot!

St. Norbert, and Moses the Black? Were they not the founders of the Norbertines?
Totus Tuus
I can tell you a fairly good amount about Bl. Fr. James Alberione, founder of the Pauline orders (Daughters of St. Paul, etc.). Ven. Mother Techla Merlo was the co-foundress of the Daughters of St. Paul. It looks like you're wanting info on living founders, though.
the_rev
no no need to be living.

Bl. Damien the Leper Priest founded an order and who is the founder of the Priests of the Sacred Heart.

Maybe we will will do nine if I get a big whole list.
Totus Tuus
I would definitely recommend that you or someone else write about the founder of the Fathers of Mercy.

Father Andreas Amrhein founded the Missionary Benedictines. You can find out more about him if you go to www.benedictinemissionhouse.com, and look under Benedictine History. God bless!

I like that order, I'll do the Legion and the Fathers.

Who wants to take someone?
the_rev
I'm going to use the Vocations board to promote these issues. I"m making another thread for the May Issue.

Neat idea. Hmm. Mother Angelica is not the foundress of the PCPA. Go to their website and there is info about the foundress of their branch of Poor Clares.
Hey, how 'bout St. Dominic? tongue.gif

Mother Marie Claire was the foundress of the PCPA's. They started in France. I can't believe I didn't catch that one, too! lol
She would be great to write about. Mother Angelica is the Abess for the community in Hanceville, as far as I know. http://www.olamshrine.com/olam/nun_stones.htm#claire

biggrin.gif cool! I wish they would have kept the more traditional habit though... I don't know... it somehow just removes the some of the nun "sense" that the traditional habit has... you know?
the_rev
No, I want any religious order founder, livinng or dead.

I agree with you 100%. Almost every order with a "reformed habit" has gone on my reject list because, like you said, the Traditoinal habit just seems to say something more powerful than the habits that are generally the product of misinterpretation of Vatican II... I could rant about that another time, though tongue.gif I do like the foundresses habit from the Adorers of the Precious Blood, it was really pretty.

St Peter Nolasco and the Blessed Mother founded the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (Mercedarians).
Paphnutius
What about St. Father Benedict, St. Dominic, and St. Ignatius? There is also St. John Bosco....
Eremite
How about St. Anthony of the Desert, who is considered the founder of Monastacism itself.
Paphnutius
St. Pachomeus (sp?) Is also considered a co-founder of monasticism as far as I know.
Totus Tuus
Is he the one St. Francis De Sales is always talking about?

He, by the way, founded a community.... Was it the Visitation order?

Totus Tuus

Eremite
Isn't the official title "The Salesians of Don Bosco"?

St. Francis of Assisi -> Franciscans, Poor Clares?
St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle -> Christian Brothers
St. Ignatius of Loyola -> Jesuits
Madonna
Fr. Maciel Marcial is amazing. It's so exciting to have our founder of Regnum Christi still alive and to be co-founders in the movement with him. WHat do you need to know?
morostheos
One that also might be cool in one in the process of founding... Fr. Frank Pavone from Priests for Life is starting a religious order of priests dedicated to defending life. smile.gif
