As of right now, I know that when I am older I definately want to have a roll in the Catholic Church, but I also know that I definately do not want to be a nun.
I myself realize that there are other options, such as being the Choir Director at my church, but I was pondering something the other day, and started asking about it, and no one could give me an absolute answer (I haven't had the chance to tak to a priest or deacon at my church yet).
Why can't a woman be a deacon? (I may also go ask this in the room for questions).
Seriously. I'm not trying to be a femanist by any means, it just bothers me. At my church, the deacons are pretty much able to do all of the same things as the priest, outside of performing the concentration and running the mass itself.
I don't understand why men can be deacons and recite the Gospel and tell the Homily at church and even (in some cases) be married priests, but, if a woman wants to dedicate (at least part of) her life to Christ, such as being a deacon, her only option is to be a nun.
Once again, not trying to be a femanist or question the church, just looking for some answers.
Thank you!

Vickles, I have yet to hear a satisfactory reason why women can't be priests or deacons. On this, I am with you.
Might I suggest talking with your priest or deacon about it? Because I can tell you this, you aren't going to find much support on this board!

Why would your only option to be a nun?
Women run many of the departments in dioceses all over the country. Being a nun isn't a requirement.

because the deaconate requires ordination which may only be received by men. Deacons are able to baptize and to marry couples.
like Cmom said (i seem to be following you tonite

), its not your only option. and please don't make it sound like a religious sister is the bottom fo the list of "good" things to do in the Church. they aren't "just" nuns, they are holy women married to our Lord Jesus Christ and praying for the rest of us! and if thats not what you meant, i apologize for being snappy. i hear too many of my teens refer to religious life like that, so i'm a bit sensitive

God has a plan for you. He has your life planned out in a perfect way that he knows will bring you as much true happiness as you can have on this earth. He is calling you to a certain vocation, and all you have to do is find out where it is! Just remember that God knows you better than you know yourself, and He knows what will be fulfilling for you. God bless you on your journey!
