About 730 days since technically I have two years of High School left since I am a to be Soph-y this year, and so if you dont count this year I got two years, and actually it depends, because I am going to try and catch it out a week after my 19th Birthday, that or if Sister Joseph Andrew doesnt approve, I'll move to Michigan.
I plan on attending their October Retreat, the cost is 25 dollars, thats not that expensive. If you would like to attened here is more info:
http://www.sistersofmary.org/retreatinfo.html I promise you wont regret it. You will do MORE things in these 24 hours then you have done in 3 days or a week!
I really look forward to coming, and I hope and know some people from PhatMass will be going. I hope to see you all there.
I got on email from Sister Joseph Andrew today, she also wants me to attend 2006 May retreat due to a GREAT PRIEST HOLY GOOD FRIEND OF MINE (Like she quoted) So hopefully I can acomplish that one as well.

Wow! You are not counting the days, are you?
"I promise you wont regret it. You will do MORE things in these 24 hours then you have done in 3 days or a week!"
I thought a retreat was about being still and quiet before the Lord and not about "doing things"
What are you "doing" in those 24 hours, anyway?

You'll be praying Holy Mass, the Divine Office, and the Rosary with the Sisters, attending conferences, recreating, sharing thoughts, a movie and good times, but above all, you'll be Listening to God Speak to Your Heart during Eucharistic Adoration. Special conferences will be given concerning the Marian and Eucharistic themes of the retreats as well as the specific character of the retreat.
Thats what it says.

I'll be there in October, getting my application papers!! The retreat is simply awesome. When you talk to all the girls afterward it's like everyone's spiritual lives went on fast track and you can't believe all that was accomplished in 24 hours. Fellowship, recreation, talking to the sisters, etc is a good chunk of the retreat during the day, but there are also silent times, and the night is all silent. That's the best part, with Jesus all night! You spend at least an hour with Him, but most spend more. I think part of it is that the sisters give you something to search for, to ask Him. And that seems to make all the difference.

They've got the newsletters, retreat flyers, DVD (but I think you have to ask for that), AWESOME 8-page pamphlet on the community, vocation prayer card, and probably more stuff, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Don't worry Amanda, you can get the rest of the stuff in October.

It would be great if you could, but its all girls/woman. After all, it is religious life, but you could probably get by with the May 2006 retreat since there is going to be a priest there apparently an extremely wonderful friend of SJAB.

Northwest Airlines has a monopoly on Mineesota....so they can make it whatever price they want.

I need to get mine yet! I've never flown before... any words of advice?
catholicflower
Sep 2 2005, 04:07 PM
I went to orbitz and decided that Northwestern had the best price @ $194 then I went to their website and got it for about $185. I am lucky because I can fly out of one of three airports (Reagan, Dulles, or BWI) and pretty much every airline in the US flies out of them so they have to price them competively.
Tips: get tehre 90 minutes- 2 hours early. Be prepared to be bored. Make sure you bring several things to occupy you on the flight (depending on how long- my flight is 90 minutes). Dramine is good. Bring gum for going up and down.
***I would suggest buying tickets now because the prices are going to skyrocket (gas prices)

Very exciting, everyone!!! SIX days until entrance!!!! My friend Ashley and I have been over at the Motherhouse for an average of 7 hours each of the past three days, and it's soooo great! Today was moving day, and we're all so excited about entrance AND even looking forward to a HUGE retreat!!!!

I just got my tickets reserved! My Mom insists on comming with me since I've never flown before, she's staying at the airport's hotel. It will be nice to have her there, anyway, and I'll be more sure of what I'm doing when I have to fly by myself next time.

*Thumbs up* Excellent...anymore Mother Assumpta stories Carly?! Haha. I'll probably talk to you on Monday the day before school starts.
7 Hours =
Lucky, whenever I go to a convent (always the Little Sisters of the Poor)
Average = 4 hours....

NOTE: PRAYER INTENTIONS = That the Lord MAY PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION to the OCTOBER retreat for me!

If you can fly out of Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angelos, Myrtle Beach, New York, Orlando, Tampa, or Washington....check out Spirit Airlines. www.spiritairlines.com I flew to detroit both times using them and go tickets for as cheap as $64 each way. The only thing is you might have to arrive a day early and stay a day late because of flight times, but that is no real tragedy.

Sep 3 2005, 09:45 PM
Actually getting there early depends on where you live. I'm from S.t Louis, and 45 minutes is enough to get through security. When I flew from Normal, I only had to be there half an hour early to get on the flight. If you fly out of a bigger airport, then get there early.
Also, don't bring scissors. Sometimes I wonder if TSA means "Takes Scissors Away" Also, wear socks because you take your shoes off.
Southwest always has cheap flights, too. I fly Northwest because I have a lot of frequent flyer miles from them (I'll have 14,000+ after I visit the Sister Servants later this month)
