Awhile ago, I owned this book, well it was more like a catalog. and all it contained were Women's religious orders. and they were all part of the CMSWR. It had a short description of each. I would like to find another copy, but have no idea of who to contact.

Do you have an address or website or phone # where I could make contact?

Thanks

YOUR WELCOME cool.gif

website is cmswr.org
e-mail address is vocations@cmswr.org

I have the catalog you are talking about it is great.

I happen to have a catalog called "Guide to Religious Communities for Women" it was printed in 1983 it is large about 444 pages.

There is a catalog I would like to get called "Religious Orders of Women in the United States" by Elinor Tong Dehey it is a catalog that was available in 1930. My mom had it when I was a little girl.

The Internet is actually the best way to go. I have copies from 1999 of Vision magazine. It is a good magazine but the majority of the orders in it do not wear habits. Though the articles in it about religious life are the best.

Talking of books, I read a weitrd one about religious life. I think it was by a journalist, and it was called "Unveiled; the hidden lives of nuns" or some such title....

I found it exceedingly unusual...the only chapters I felt comfortable with were the ones on the Passionist nuns, and the Sisters of St Francis in Alton. The other chapters were all about the libreated woman and so on...

Has any one else read it? I felt like telling the author to go and interview the Nashville Dominicans, Sisters of Mary, SSEW's, PCPA's, PCC's, Sisters of Life and some Dominican nuns! Not to mention all the other cheerful, orthodox and vibrant orders that are bursting at the seams with vocations...!

Thank you for sharing. I have a list of "books I want to buy in the future."
That one was on the list. Now it isn't. Thanks for the review, you saved me some money.

is their a guide for men's religious communites
FutureNunJMJ
Their is a Guide to Religious COmmunities and I have seen it everywhere. It is a blue book that is about 500 pages long... I think they put one out a year, and it is a very good source, but it helps to know what you are looking for when looking through the book because not all the descriptions are very accurate or even detailed enough.

They have it at the abbey, looked through it once.
