Just got it in the mail. It seems they really turned it around. They have a lot of articles now, before it was just advertisments. Their articles range from areas of vocations of bishops, and spiritual direction and cool stuff like that. So they're getting better! Get yours today!

Be careful with the Vision guide! They have oodles of wacky Orders (well, imo, "wacky" = "orders who have severely misinterpreted the changes of Vatican II"). They do have good Orders in there, too, but in the last Vision guide I got, there were very few good Orders.

The norbertiens are one of the good orders!

:D
Yeah there are some good Orders, but don't you agree, there aren't a whole heck of a lot?

I agree. I have been receiving it since 1999. I have noticed the orders that wear habits has gone down in number over the years

I prefer to use the Internet and there is a "good" catalog available. Check out cmswr.org

If you want to check out Vision magazine it can be reached at
visionguide.org

The magazine itself is Ok. But the orders that advertize are more liberal because they have the money to advertize everywhere whereas a lot of the more traditional orders just don't have the money for that sort of thing.
So, it's a good idea to look at the articles separate from the advertizers!

The Norbertiens advertise in there, do u think they liberal?

I don't think that is what Susan meant, but there are MANY orders that are... I know
that they are an order you are looking into and are just defending their name, but there wasn't a need to jump the gun a little... smile.gif God Bless

Well I question the magazine's integrity, because they also advertise books by Father Rolheiser (who is a heretic, from all I can tell). I don't think it's very commendable to simply advertise the Orders who have the money to do so, and any books by authors who have money to do so. They should at the very least be screened.

Yeah, I agree about some of the orders being questionable, but I thought the one article about the Rwandan priest and the cloistered nun was really worth reading and a wonderful story!
the_rev
the story about that one bishop in Chicago, was really cool, hint norbertine ad right by it....

Kat the Cistercians advertise in the vision guide.
MC IMaGiNaZUN
well i guess if you approach the whole guide as permeated with ads from "bad" orders, you might miss out on being open to God's will.
It may be clear sometimes, it may be not so clear. You just have to read the thing being aware, as opposed to trashing the whole thing altogether, it has helped me in my discernment. Although i have not seen the new one at all, i have gotten the ones the past couple of years.

Yeah, what a beautiful picture, eh? love.gif

I'm kinda uneasy about it a little too just from being warned before, but I have looked through it and it is allright. I would probably surf on the internet for a while, and I also love the Guide to Religious Communities or whatever it is called.

I also agree that Vision has many Orders to be leary of, but I think the reason for that is that many Orthodox Orders do not advertise as much as some of the more liberal Orders. Just as many live on Divine Providence for their temporal needs, they rely on Divine Providence for their vocations smile.gif Not that all Orders that advertise are bad, right Kat? smile.gif (Cistercians)
