Full Version: Going Aganist God's Will/Vocation For Your Life?

Folks,

I had a question: Would it be a serious sin to go aganist God's will/Vocation for your life? A priest once told me that a person will go to hell if they don't follow God's will?

This is problematic. Because there are some clear ways we don't follow God's will, like when we sin obviously.

I do believe that there are some people who are married with children, but were called to religious life and priesthood. I do believe that some folks who left their vows realized way too late that they were never called.

I don't believe we can judge. Because honestly, too many people make those major life decisions without ever discerning.

When i decided to enter the monastery, i had the realization that i would be a good Father, who could take care of a women and who could raise kids to be Saints, open to God's will of course.

I just know, that we are too important to God, for him to just give up on us, if we make the wrong decision, and then choose to be faithful to that.

I believe, that if i was really called to married life, and stuck with this, that God would still work through me to bring souls to heaven. Of course, i would know how i fell short.

Nope. A vocation is God's invitation, not His command. Obviously, it's in your best interest to accept God's invitation. If you decline it, you do unecessary violence to yourself, take the harder path. But you can decline it without sinning seriously. This is what Father Thomas Dubay says in Dawn of a Consecration:

QUOTE
Obligation to Follow a Vocation:
First of all, no one is bound under pain of serious sin to follow a religious vocation even if he is sure of it.  After all, Christ invites in this matter, He does not command. As regards holy virginity He said, "let him accept it who can," not, "he must accept it who can." (Matt. 19:12) In this same connection St. Paul also observed, "Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord ... Therefore, both he who gives his virgin daughter in marraige does well, and he who does not give her does better." (1 Cor. 7:25, 38) Because this is so, I am not bound under pain of sin to enter the religious state.

But what about venial sin? theologians commonly teach that a girl could sin venially if she refuses from some faulty motive to accept God's invitation.  If, for example, she rejects convent life merely out of wordliness or sensuality or human respect, she many be guilty of light sin.

I know that God will continue to invite us to holiness no matter what mistakes we make, but speaking from experience, I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID WHAT GOD ASKED ME TO DO! I LOVE BEING A SISTER. I was very afraid of the idea for a while, but God helped me one baby step at a time to not only accept it, but to love it and enjoy it! My fears were based on false fears.

I believe that if we do obey God, we will truly be happy! Why? Because God made us for that specific purpose, so it is only natural for us to be happy in that life!

TRUST GOD. He gives us the grace to do what he asks of us. upsidedown.gif

You're funny!

Whenever someone implies that he/she knows what God wants for another person's life (other than pointing out and admonishing obvious sins) and tries to pressure them using the threat of hell, that to me is a definite sign of a religious cult.

And if they offer you Kool-Aid from a metal tub, don't accept it.

Besides, CCC 2230 speaks of the right of children to "choose their profession and state of life" and that parents should not "exert pressure on their children"..
