I would imagine it is good to keep an eye on the "other side," as it were, since not everyone in a parish will see eye to eye with the Church. I am not a strong advocate of both of the magazines the_rev recommended staying away from, but sometimes it helps to know what the "other side" is thinking. Also, in order to keep a balance it might be good to have a variation of a few things.
First, since I am a strong advocate of it, I would recommend two great apologetical magazines
This Rock Envoy Magazine Also, I highly recommend
Crisis which, is general all around good reading.
On the "other side" there are a few that, despite your desire to shy away from them, are good to know about since a lot of people are reading them.
America St. Anthony Messenger National Catholic Reporter Also, I concur with others in the reading of Our Sunday Visitor and would also add, for your own leisure, and not really to subscribe, "homiletic and pastoral review" which gives homiletic ideas but also deals with things that are a concern for today's clergy and tries to deal with them in a very pastoral sense.
Come to think of it, catholic.net had something like this, you can find it here
