I have narrowed down my confirmation name to three:
Patrick
Benedict
Norbert
I'll keep you updated, I'm going to ask each saint to reveal to me if they are the saint I should choose. This is going to take a lot of prayer!

I truly wish that the youth that I work with would take the choice of their Confirmation name as seriously as you. Heck I wish they all would take their FAITH as seriously as you! Eddy you truly are an inspiration to those of us who work with youth who show absolutly NO desire to be at Church. It's nice to know that there are people like you out there!!

When I was in religious education, I didn't feel that many of the teachers really wanted to be there. They didn't seem to take their role seriously. I was one of those people who had so many questions, but I was told to 'go ask the priest' when I tried to ask them. That was, of course, a while ago! ~sighs~ I am grateful to you, Jen, for your dedication as an educator. May you be richly rewarded.

Denise that was my experience too when I was in religious education for the most part. The catechists always seemed not interested in their faith or they didn't KNOW their faith. (But trust me....I was for the most part one of those students who didn't want to be there in the first place either). So now with my job I'm CONSTANTLY looking for ways to show our youth that our faith is ALIVE and INTERESTING. I'm trying so hard to get them to love it and OWN it because it is there's too. It's such a big task sometimes though and I tend to get very frustrated lately. I try not to....but sometimes I just can't help it. I keep reminding myself that we are only planting the seends....God will take care of everything!!!
(Sorry Eddy....didn't mean to hijack your thread!!

I'll shut up now!!)

I would love to hear more about why you chose those saints as 'possibles'. You want to know what's really funny? As I mentioned in an earlier post here, I didn't feel that my teachers often took their role seriously. I think at one point, I just gave up and actually didn't want to be confirmed at all. (I'm 35 now, so of course this was a long time ago!) My mother 'made' me receive the Sacrament, something I'm grateful for now. Anyway, I hadn't a clue about saints, or what name to choose for my own confirmation name! I chose "Anjanette", a form of Angelica. I'd heard it used in French class, and I thought it beautiful! Anyway, It's funny that later on, I enter a monastery from a community who's Mother's name is Angelica. .
The things I did when I was younger and so naive! I really am impressed when I meet teens who are so on fire with our Lord and praise God when they are already speaking of vocations! God bless you and may He give you the courage to persevere in your vocation.

Makes you want to say to our Lord 'Hey now, cut that out!' LOLOL Then say, "not really, but you know what I mean!' He's just such a lover of us, isn't He. . .when we do things like that, is it our emotion, or are we just feeling HIM?
Perhaps a little of both. . .but I tend to think it's the latter, when we do something like cry for no reason, or some similar response.

Heh, I love confirmation names! I chose James, specifically James the Less (not the James that was at the crucifixion, the other Apostle).
First off, catholic.org said he was often confused with the "other James". I'm a middle child with two brothers who look almost exactly like me. I'm all about the name confusion.
That may seem like a silly reason to choose a saint, actually it is come to think of it, but it lead to a much deaper connection. All the stuff in his biography I thought was really amazing. Including his martyrdom story. He was thrown from the top of a building (the whole "renounce Christ or die!" thing) he hit the ground, and got back up on his knees! prayed for his assailants ("forgive them lord they know not what they do" kinda thing, Imitation of christ is cool) and was subsiquently stoned to death.
He was bishop of Jerusalem btw. Where would you want to be bishop of? Oh, and a cousin of Jesus.
I know you guys had gotten on to other subjects, but I love talking about JL. Him and me are tight.
HisChild
Feb 13 2006, 12:37 AM
Thanks for the story, I remembered JL, but only when you mentioned him. Fortunately none of my siblings look alike.
I think if I could choose all over again, I'd choose either Teresa (of Avila) or Maria Maddalena (de Pazzi) as a confirmation name.
Hmmmmm I'd have to say I wouldn't want to be bishop of anywhere since I'm not a male! LOL But I understand the question. Jerusalem would be pretty amazing!

My confirmation name is Peter. I've always liked reading about Peter in the Bible.
One of the cool things about having kids is that you get to honor more saints with their names. You can only have one confirmation name but you can have multiple kids!

I have kids who are named wholly or in part after Sts. Patrick, Lawrence, Michael the Archangel, Ignatius, Simon Stock, Margaret Mary, and Maximilian Kolbe. I also have Kristina, of course, who is named after our Lord.
Eddie, be sure and let us know which you choose. I'm placing odds on Norbert.

My Confirmation saint is Teresa, after St. Teresa of Avila. I had been praying very intensely about who to choose for my saint, and I just randomly came across her autobiography on the Internet. I just knew it was to be her, but I had to double-check. I prayed that if it was to be St. Teresa that I would be shown one morning, and I went to choir practice and the lyrics of our song was a prayer written by St. Teresa. I never doubted my choice again.
It's actually kind of providential, too. Who knew that my Confirmation saint might be my Holy Mother Foundress in a few years if I become a Discalced Carmelite?

Hey, that's awesome that you're choosing a Confirmation name and taking it seriously! When I converted to Catholicism, I picked Joan after St. Joan of Arc and I picked her because learning about her in seventh grade opened my eyes to the Catholic Church, because she had such a serene faith in God. After learning more about her, I felt I had a lot in common with her because it seemed she had a lot of the same personality traits as me. I wanted to have that same faith as she did and it was learning about her that brought me to Christ so to honor her, I chose her name for Confirmation.

I chose St. Rose of Lima but only because I liked the name Rose. I did NO research whatsoever at the time of my Confirmation. Just picked a name 'cause that's what we were told to do.
Well this past spring I decided to do a little research on her to find out more about her (took me awhile to do this!!). Well let me tell you guys....the Holy Spirit must have REALLY been with me unbenknownest to me back then. St. Rose and I have SOOOO much in common it's not even funny!!! Ever since I've been praying to her unceasingly. She really is one of my patron saints. It's kind of amazing how that happened!!

Why I'm considering Patrick
I love Ireland, I studied in Ireland for half a semester at Golden Rose Academy in Belfast which now has closed. In addition on of my favourite marian appartions is Our Lady of Knock, since Ireland is Catholic because of the evangelization that Patrick did, I might choose his name.
Why I'm choosing Benedict
Benedict the founder of Western Monasticism. He helped to fight of the evil with the devil, and I just have a particular liking to this saint, heck it might be because of the Pontiff. Plus my mother wants me to take this name.
Why I'm choosing Norbert
Founder of the Canon Regulars of Pre Montre, which is an order close to my heart, because they are only 30 minutes from my home. I go for confession there like everyweek during the summer and at least once a month during the school year. Norbert was an apostle of the Eucharist, which I too want to model as a priest. In addition he lived a life of luxury before converting to the faith and becoming a priest and bishop. He is a great saint! You should read up on this guy!
Yours in Christ,
Eddy Lee
P.s. Of course as I put in bold., "Why I'm choosing _____" I can't choose all three obvously but those are the reasons why I would choose such a name.

I have officialy chosen my confirmation name! I have chosen: Patrick!
Patrick preached the gospel throughout Ireland converting many. He coverted thousands, Kings, families, and entire countires were converted to Christianity through Patrick. One of my goals as a future priest is to convert Catholics to Catholicism. That may sound odd. But most Catholics don't know much about their faith. I will use my priesthood to preach from the pulpit to tell Catholics what their missing out on. Just recently I was given the opportunity to teach my own confirmation class. I couldn't believe my class never heard of Marian appartions such as Fatima and Lourdes. So we are watching the Song of Bernadette. I told them it was a classical film, and that it was in Black and White. They told me they wouldn't like it, but last night when class ended at 8:15, they asked if they could stay late and watch it because it is a great movie. Obviously they couldn't so they can't wait to see the end next week. Hopefully a devotion to the BVM will be fostered through this.
Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, and has been associated with him and the Irish since that time. He uesed something so simple as a shamrock to show the importance of the Trinity.
Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God is a shining example to each myself and hopefully you as well! He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission to him given by Christ.
