Something that became real evident to me, is the overwhelming amount of respect the teachers have at school for me. Today alone I noticed that at least 5 people respect my decision to become a Catholic priest. My Spanish teacher knows how at times I may be poked fun of, so she gave me a Valentines Day card, with candy. Then I had to go to the guidance office and get a packet of information about the ACT, a standardized test that helps one get into college. They asked me where I was considering going, and I said, either University of St. Thomas in Minnesota or the Franciscan University of Steubenville. After I said the second school, the secretary asked me if I was going to become a priest or minister or whatever. Now this secretary never really liked me nor have we really talked. But I spent 10 minutes explaining to the guidance counselor and the secretary about College Seminary. We talked about religious orders, as I was sporting a Jesuit sweatshirt today, and spoke of the FUS. So they asked where I would become a priest. I said that most likely I would be a priest for my diocese. So we just talked about it. By the end of the discussion I could really sense an overwhelming sense of respect for my decision on their part.

Finally in Honors English today I shared my story of how I received a Papal Rosary. Students asked me to bring it to class and show them it. So I was telling the story and at the end the teacher told me she really respects me for what I want to do, and knows I put up with a lot of ridicule. Just last week we were talking about having children in English class, and I of course did not raise my hand, later on in the class period we discussed what if we were all famous. And she's like well Eddy will be either the Bishop or Pope so of course we're going to have one popular person from our class. She was actually being serious too. (Just so you know I have been compared to the personality of my Bishop who also is an only child; I was talking with a friend about a priest who is an only child, and she said, "you remind me more of Bishop."

Also in English class today someone asked me after the rosary story, if I wanted to be a priest. Because they did know I was highly involved in politics. I said, yeah, I think that is what I'm supposed to do. They said, "It'd be hard not seeing you as a priest, you have the personality for it, and plus it's what you've wanted to do since we were in second grade." They continued to say how they wish for me to marry them or to at least baptize their children. We'll see about that!

Since August 15th, 2005 when I knew my calling was to the priesthood. I haven't been happier. I have been living my life totally for Christ and will continue to do so.

Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Yours in Christ,

Eddy Lee

that is wonderful that you are receiving so much support from your teachers and classmates... sounds like you go to a really good school.

I remember back when i was a lapsed Catholic, I still had a great deal of respect for priests and religious. I don't know why. It totally contradicted all my other beliefs. But there was something special....almost untouchable about them. I made fun of Catholicism all the time, but I just didn't have it in me to diss priests and religious, because they gave up everything they owned for God, their whole lives, marriage, family, their freedom... all for God. I didn't know who God was, I believe I never met Him before college. But I knew there was Something out there and that these people were holy.

I did a lot of papers and reports about the Desert Fathers and monasticism in high school. I guess even though it seemed like I was so lost, at least there was some part of me that was seeking God.

That's so awesome that you had the courage to admit that in your high school! I would have never owned up to it in my school... maybe in my youth group.... of course, I've always been a bit of a chicken. But God loves me despite my lack of courage! (and despite a whole lot of other things, but ya know....)
God will Bless you for your desire to be His!

we need to do this more often to.

I think John Paul knew this as he talked about "Be Not Afraid"

That is awesome, and what a blessing you are, perhaps through witnessing your perseverance, courage and love others may awaken and persevere in answering the call to be a priest, God bless you and know that I am keeping you in my prayers!!!
