About 15 minutes ago, a recruiter from the SVD (Society of the Divine Word) just contacted me. We talked about things, it was really nice. They are a group of priests and brothers who focus on missionary work. This is one of the thousands of things I want to do/feel called to do with my life. The funny thing is the guy was Vietnamese, and his accent was thick. I kinda laughed on the phone. I hope I wasn't too rude.

Another one called me about a month ago, from the Legonnaries of Christ. A nice guy by the name of Brother Gaberial Lewis called me. We talked about World Youth Day, Vatican II, his vocation...my vocation. Another very nice conversation, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Anything like this happen to you...out of the blue, they just call you?

Did you put your name on a list? I know Vision Mag has something like that, where you tell them if you are interested and what sort of order, (active, contemplative, etc.) Maybe from something like that?

I've heard of others on here talk about that, but no, it hasn't happened to me.

Nope. When Sr. Lauren was discerning her vocation we NEVER got any unsolicited calls. Of course, we're on the national no-call list for telemarketers; maybe that protected us.

I know I've been contacted via mail by communities before. Usually I've gotten my name on a list and have forgotten about it and so forth. I've never been contacted by phone for two reasons. One, I never give out my phone number. Two, I never answer my phone (unless it's my cell. I only have a landline for internet).

I have talked to VDs on the phone though.

But TOO88, the orders you're in touch with seem cool. Keep us posted!

Oh, I take that back. Shortnun reminded me. I was contacted via snail mail. I don't know how they got my info. Probably when I registered once at a vocation discernment day in our diocese. . .and they sent info regardless if I said I was interested.

Yes I have had orders send me information in the mail and it was from when I had in the beginning of my discernment found a vocation information site and had filled out a lil questionaire, but most I had contacted on my own, and the only time I have ever gotten phone calls was when I specifically gave out my number. In regards to the Society of the Divine word, they are a very holy and orthodox community, Founded by St. Arnold Jansen, and I have come to know a couple of their priests very well and if you haven't found your community as of yet, I'd recommend thinking about discerning with them.

I used to get literature in the mail because I filled out the vocation card at a Youth 2000. Later on I got a bunch of e-mails and some snail mail as well from VocationPlacement.com. The only random contact was from the Lockport Dominicans, who found my blog. But they never sent me any further info. All in God's plan.

That was also my only random, unsolicited contact, and it was done as an email through phatmass.
