IDK. I think crazy questions are funny but times I wonder what the Sisters are thinking when we ask them those types of questions!!!

although some can have a meaning but "Sister do you shave your legs??" what type of meaning is that!?!?!? that was a question a girl in my math class asked Sister when we were a freshman in HS!!! i thought it was the dumbest question ever!!!!

OOO! OOO!! I have a secret question I've always wanted to know...

As someone who uses a hearing aid and has serious hearing problems....how do the Sisters hear anything when the veil covers their ears??

ITS EASY!!!! LOL!!!! Just think the material that the veils are made out of a re very thin, so thin that they flap or wave in in the wind.......try putting a towel over your head and listening to people, you might get the idea what its like to do that!!! LOL!!!

Mary-Kathryn! What a great question. I wondered the same thing myself. About four years ago, I went to a Continental Congress on Vocations in Canada. And there were many religious there from all over North America. And some of the talks we went to were in French (which I don't speak), so participants were given headphones to hear the translators. And the nuns wore them on the outside of their veils!!! Unbelievable! Some of the veils showed womens' ears, so they wore them "normally." But otherwise, the sisters had cloth between their ears and the head phones. So maybe they just turn up their hearing aids an extra notch! lol.gif

On a side note, it was in Montreal that I first met the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist!!!

PS- Alter Dom.... when are you going to see her? She spoke at the EWTN Anniversary celebration in St. Louis last weekend, but I wasn't able to go.

I met Mother Assumpta in person when I attended the Nashville Dominicans'
January 1983 vocation retreat.

In addition to being very impressed by her, I was also struck by her great
resemblance to my (non-Catholic) mother.

I turned 30 in '88. I'm looking at communities, but not very hard right now as
it's going to be a few years before I'd be free to enter.

Story time! lol.

EDIT: I'm not going to any names to spare them humility. I'll only name communities.

I was having a rough day, so I went to "hide" on my computer, I lurked for a while and noticed that I had an email! (Woohoo!) It was from a nun in Summit, New Jersey. "Sister said Amanda you've been wanting to know what the Annual Dominican NM Meeting was, and what we did there." I have a big smile on my face, ready to find out, so she says, "Well...we just sit around and drink beer all day." (lol_pound.gif) lol_roll.gif . That very Saturday of the week I was to go to a cookout at the Little Sisters of the Poor, I went there, it was at least 98 degrees outside, beating sun, heat index maybe like 70%, it was HOTTTTT, I was constantly helping out and working and even worked through my "break" time. And then a sister said, "someone could go at get the beverages", I'm like, "what are the beverages?", she said, "Water, pop, and beer..." I thought oh okay, normal root beer. I went to the cooler, and sure enough (!!!!) MGD BEER!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh, My mouth stayed open for a very long time. lol_roll.gif

I saw your comment on the hearing aids, etc. When I wore my veil, I noticed that it was harder to hear some things, especially if I was turning my head at the same time, because of the 'whisper' of the fabric.

One of the funniest things that happened to me when I was in OH is one of the acolytles, during Vespers, decided at the end of the psalms (we are supposed to chant the Glory Be while bowing) to chant 'Amen' while bowing. We cracked up. The same sister, right before I entered, apparently stood up to chant the reading, instead of speaking it. . .'a reading from the letter of St Paul to the. .. ' I heard they couldn't finish vespers they were laughing too hard.
