Mr. Zak has me looking for all sorts of contemplative communties to be prayer warriors for the Here I Am Lord conferences... I think I may have a list of just about every Discalced Carmel in the US, all of the Trappists/Cisternians, Cathursians, Sister Adorers of the Precious Blood, along with a good number of Benedictines, Poor Clares, Dominicans, and a number of other smaller orders. I think I will list the communities and the name of the abbey/monastery/whatever (if I have it) and location so you all can tell me what communities are faithful and orthodox (or not...) and if I am missing any that should be there! (A major thanks to Gemma and her site; it helped big time with this!)

Okay… *gulp* here it goes!

Pink Sisters--yes Lincoln, NE, and Corpus Christi, TX

Passionists-- Erlanger, KY; Whitesville, KY; Pittsburgh, PA.

There's also a CP monastery in Clark Summit, PA, but we don't promote them because they modernized too much. Last I saw, they wore 'civvies'.

I think the Carmelites in New Franken and Denmark are one in the same convent. They just built a new convent (for four or five sisters; this convent cost 12 million dollars I think) and now are only in denmark. Now dont' quote me, but I think this accurate.

Missouri has a Passionist convent I believe. It's part of the St. Louis Diocese site on their contemplative sisters.
BTW don't forget the Good Shepherd Contemplatives.
Also there are at least 12 Benedictine monasteries which are fully contemplative.

duh.gif I can't believe I forgot Missouri! Someone I know was accepted to enter there, but she hasn't due to family problems.

As I said, I don't cover the "undercover" nuns. The habit is what the Lord wants. A discerner I worked with looked at the OSBs in Missouri, and after she started attending the Latin Mass, wouldn't have anything to do with them.

I had developed a monastic tour of St. Louis, but we moved before I could implement it.

In addition to what Angela is working on for me, I have a list of 200 communities in spreadsheet format. We will be posting al of them to the Conference Website during the summer. Thanks to all who are assisting Angela, we need Prayer Warriors to open the minds and hearts of teens, young adults and parents.

Sorry to be a bummer, but the Newark monastery of the Dominican Nuns closed in 2003. It is now a formation house for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Also, the Washington D.C. sisters are moving to Virginia and building a new monastery.

They did move from the New Franken address to Denmark. The convent is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in my life; I got to tour it before they moved. My understanding is that there are more than five sisters. Someone who is fairly close to them told me 12, I think. I was surprised, though, because that's more than what I'd heard. I've heard them sing the divine office before, and their voices sounded young. (You can't see them even through the grate because of the way the chapel is positioned.)

Discalced Carmelites by the rules of St. Theresa can only have at most 21 members to a monastery. This was/is to keep a family type atmosphere in a house of prayer.

There are cloistered Benedictines:

Regina Laudis Bethlehem, CT--full latin office w/ Gregorian Chant

OSB's affiliated w/ solesmes in Vermont--Gregorian chant also at the Monasteryof Mary Immaculate--full habit

Petersham MA nuns--habit and full office.

OSB nuns on an island in Washington, habit, office, raise livestock

Abbey St. Walburga CO habit, office, farming, livestock

St. Emma Monastery in PA - do work in monastery; I don't know if they're cloistered but their mission is retreats, full habit and office.

I don't want to be wet blanket, but there are already many sites for 'orthodox' orders listings--institute for religious life, vocations.com, and religiousministry, com, which includes all comers but which is also very complete.

I am bumping this to find some addresses... or at least get some help with locating addresses and web pages/sites if they are out there... These are Poor Clare Communities...

I need addresses and web sites (if existent) for these communities:

North Royalton, OH
Andover (Lowell), MA
Bordentown, NJ (609) 298-0016
Ft. Myers Beach, FL
Stamford, CT
Canton, OH
and this one?
Mt. Sinai, NY

These I could use websites for if they are out there...

Alexandria, VA
Aptos, CA
Cleveland, OH
Los Altos, CA
Newport News, VA
Roswell, NM (505) 622-0868
Sauk Rapids, MN

I think the Minooka, IL Community has a website... I just have to find it again...
