Hi! My name is Lee Nora and I am 22 years old from Bellmawr New Jersey, have been discernign with this community for a while now and I wanted to let other Young People know about this GREAT community...

Here's a lil History on this community...

Who Are the IHMs. . .

Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Immaculata PennsylvaniaThe Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, is a Pontifical Religious Institute, whose members are committed to God and to the Church by the profession of the public vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

The charism of the sisters is Love, which continues to manifest itself today in the sisters’ joyful service of God and his people; creative Hope, which puts all its confidence in God’s loving Providence; and Fidelity, which inspires fervor in their vocation in Christ and in their mission in the Church.

The Immaculata branch of the Congregation comprises approximately 1050 Sisters who currently staff Catholic schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida and in the South American countries of Peru and Chile. The sisters also serve the Church in pastoral and other religious ministries in other states as well.

Welcome to Phatmass Lee Nora! Can you tell us more about this community? Do they have a website?

I am slightly concerned by the sister's recommendation to become involved with Pax Christi or a similiar institute on their website. As expressed in this link: http://www.catholicculture.org/sites/site_...cfm?recnum=1157 that institute is highly questionable in its orthodoxy.

You can tell a lot about an institution by it's links.

Also, they don't seem to be a member of CMSWR....

Hi Lee Nora and welcome aboard! Your sisters seem like a wonderful group. I enjoy looking over their online vocations newsletter every month.
God bless!

I almost went to Immaculata University. I was between that and another one. Ultimately I chose the other. Sr. Carmen Therese helped with busy persons retreats at the school where I went. She was so sweet.

I can't seem to find what you're referring to here--could you tell where this reference is on their website?

Thanks for the welcome... the community website is IHMs

The origins of the community come from Father Gillet in Monroe Michigan. He was a redemptorist missionary who searched for religious to teach his people, and so that is how this wonderful community started.

The community based on the spirit of St. Alphonsus Liguori. They were 3 founding Sisters with Father Gillet who envisioned and educational apostolate conducted by religious women who would give witness to prayerfulness, humility, simplicity, forgetfulness of self, and a deep love and respect for each individual soul.

Of course, smile.gif.

1. Go to this page: http://www.ihmimmaculata.org/sisters.html
2. Click on the "IHM Social Justice Initiative".
3. On the 2nd page of the pdf, look in the first paragraph in the left column -"Join an advocacy group, e.g. Pax Christi"

Pax Christi!

There are 3 different congregations of IHM sisters originating from the first founding. The one she is talking about is WAY more orthodox than the other 2. One of which Veritas was pointing to.

In VA we have sisters in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Falls Church and Annandale...any of them close to you at all??

I was slightly wrong about this. There are 3 congregations. One in Scranton, Pennsylvania, one in Immaculata, Pennsylvania, and one in Marion, Michigan, but now that I look them over again, the Immaculata is the more orthodox, but probably not enough for a lot of the readers here. It looks like the vail might be optional. Wich was the one you are looking into?

No, all those places are on the coast!! I fear I am up in the mounains of the Blue ridge. If you were to enter them, what type of work would you be doing???

Hey Lee, so wonderful to hear of your thoughts. I was at the SSJ's home for the retired sisters in chestnut hill, and what a holy place indeed, so I know what you mean about Camilla Hall. Are you a nurse??

I love the IHMs they are so awesome. D.gif A girl a know (went to school with, worked with, lived down the street from) she entered the order a few years ago, and another girl I know who attendes Immaculata University is discerning a vocation to the order. Also the seminary I attended goes and sings Christmas carols at Camilla Hall every year, the retired sisters there love it alot, but I think we love it more. They are the best. Anyway FutureIHMNJ, you will be in my prayers.
God Bless
