Full Version: Want to talk to a Vocations Director

I would like to talk to a vocations director, well to get direction. I'm like backsliding, I don't feel I'm making any progress in discerning. I had made contact with a vocations director (recommened by a phamily member here) thru email, but she hasn't responded in over a month. I'd like to know if any of ya'll have recommendations with who's a good person to speak to. I want to know if I have a vocation to the religious life or not, and if I do, what my spirituality is and what I should be doing.

Thanks a bunch!

You can email me off-board if you wish.

We also offer Women in Discernment and Men in Discernment Yahoo groups.

I think I can answer your questions, and recommend you to some vocation directors who will respond.

Sounds like perhaps what you're looking for is a spiritual director who can help you with discernment issues... idontknow.gif If that's the case, you might see if you can find a local priest who can help.
Are you interested in a partiicular community? Maybe try to contact their vocations director. I know that many of them often get swamped and so sometimes it makes it difficult for them to get back to everyone. It may also be hard to get a hold of them in the summer because that seems to be when a lot of non-cloistered communities will schedule community retreats and home visits.

I was going to say what magnificat said. I think what you're looking for is a spiritual director.

Ask your parish office about the book of religious communities in your diocese. Then ask an adult you trust to help you pick out a few communities (with priests) that are orthodox. Call them and ask about finding a spiritual director.

What you can do is also start emailing/writing requesting information on different communites. Sometimes you read something that really touches you. At that point you might start corresponding with that community. When a community does not respond I figure that is a sign from God, do not pursue this community. Hopefully you can find a good priest to speak with, they can help a great deal.
Good luck!!

Addendum to my previous post...

Another great resource if you prefer to not talk to the pastor at your church is to look up your Diocese's Vocations Office. That priest should be able to help you locate a good spiritual director near where you live as well as help direct you towards any religious orders that are in your diocese. And generally the priest they have running the office is one who is relatively younger who might be able to relate more to youth and their needs as well as would know of any vocational events in the diocese, so it's probably a good person to have as a resource anyways. You never know who might be the person that God might be placing in your path to help you with your discernment.

God bless.
