Over here there's a tv programme (made by the Catholic Church) called "Kruispunt" (lit. "cross-point") and because they're all on their Summer hols, they're showing a repeat of a series from last year - visiting Dutch religious who live outside the Netherlands. This week it's about one Mother Theresa who's the Abbess of a Cistercian House in Jutland.

Do those nuns ever stop grinning? Ok, some of it was probably for the camera. The Mother Abbess is wicked (in the 70s sense of the word): she said that when she realised she wanted to be a nun, she had three conditions: she didn't want to live in a community that solely consisted of women; she didn't want to live in a Protestant country; she didn't want to live in an old building. And now she's Abbess of a whole bunch of women who live in a medieval castle in Denmark. God has such a sense of humour.

But oh heck, they all looked so happy. And the black veil:white veil ratio was something like 1:6. If the novices ever decided to rebel it'd be a pushover!

There's actually a dvd available of the entire series. If it weren't in Dutch I'd hassle you all to order it! As it is I may just have to hassle everyone here to order it instead wink.gif

Ah, the Trappists! They are so dear to my heart. D.gif

Their spirituality is by far my favorite of all the orders I have discerned with. But I don't feel God calling me there. Shucks! maddest.gif

would the DVD have English subtitles? bounce.gif

I don't think so. At most it would have Dutch subtitles for the hard of hearing. However, you can see the original programme with the Danish Cistercians here (click on the red arrow thingamybob) - it's all in Dutch (and a bit of Danish, with Dutch subtitles), but you might find it cool to watch anyway smile.gif
