Although that Brazilian Carmelites one had TONS of liturgical abuses

Why?. Is a new institute with only 21 years, very tradicional.
zunshynn
Umm, well it's not in the formation pictures. It's in the galeria de fotos. Glass containers for the Eucharist at communion, gathering around the altar and holding hands with the priest during the consecration, the sisters washing each others feet on Holy Thursday, a lot of dancing during mass, using keyboards and drums, to name a few that stood out.
ruso
Huy that serious.
Responds to a mass of natives-American in some reserve, or Charismatic, or to my parish, or where I went to mass this Sunday in Mexico.........
I to your age was but firm that your with these things. smile.gif

Ruso,

THANK YOU for all these links! Ah, Poland --it must be SO wonderful to live in a Catholic nation, and so many vocations, is it any wonder?

Blessings.

gotta get on a faster computer.....I can't wait to see all these photos!
hugheyforlife
wait... drums at Mass is against the rules? what kind of drums? are we talking rock band drums or tympanies?
zunshynn
Well, technically, from what I've read on the Q&A forum, percussion and even piano and guitar are not appropriate for mass at all. Obviously most parishes are not aware of this (mine included) or don't pay attention to that, so it wasn't one of the more glaring abuses in the pictures, but yeah.

Ok whoa!! Where can I find some official info on this? I tried google but couldnt find anything concrete other then people's opinions. I am especially worried because I play guitar in a choir at mass and I would like to know if I am doing something wrong??
zunshynn
Cam points out a number of documents here and also here regarding music during Mass. The first one is his most concise answer though.

I hope that helps... Obviously it's something quite ingrained in most parishes... it would be hard to change... but yeah.

Thanks! I kinda feel like the carpet has been pulled out from under me! I guess I should bring this up with my priest and stop playing in the choir sad.gif At first this was kinda hard to accept since I thought the music and some of the other practices were drawing people to church but now I can see that it is more about our entertainment then the pure worship of God due to him at mass. Whoa! Yet another eye opening night lol smile.gif

Wow, I go away for a while, and Cam becomes concise (let me take a look, oh concise for Cam...) He really should write a book on the liturgy.

Cardinal Arinze was quoted a few months ago as saying, "I won't say no guitars ever, but..." It is definitaely not prefered, but tolerated (for the time being).

I had a really hard time when someone pointed out what was wrong with the more modern music at Mass. I kind of thought? Who are they to dictate how we worship God?

But then slowly I started to realize how we're missing so much really, now that all of the beautiful music of our church has been abandoned. I love the contemporary stuff—I listen to it constantly at home. But I realized that it really would be nice to have something transcendent of time at mass. Because we are entering out of time into eternity, and I think that's the message the Church is trying to give us by insisting on the use of truly sacred music. To help us, and of course, to remind us that Mass isn't about us really. I mean it is, but it's about what God is giving to us, not what we're giving to Him, because that is more what Praise & Worship tends to do... stress what we're giving to God. Which isn't bad, in and of itself, but that isn't what Mass is.

I still haven't gotten up the courage to bring our music up with my pastor. I want to... it's just I'm so terrified! Plus we're in the middle of refurnishing our piano... and it's like... who am I to tell them not to, you know? But I hope you do, and that your pastor pays attention... pray for me, too, that I might be given the courage to do so as well.

rotfl.gif Yeah, that's why I gave her the first one first. Did you look at that second one? Like, seriously get to the point man!

I'm sorry I hijacked your thread ruso! blush.gif

And thank you again for the pictures! I loved looking at them!
Piobaire
Sorry for continuing the hijack but I have another quick question blush.gif Those posts talked about instruments but lets say you are singing an old classic like Hear I am Lord with the organ only. Is that ok or should the music be more traditional chant type music? I feel completely ignorant! I have never been to a mass except at OLAM where the music wasnt praise and worship or something a little more classic like Hear I am Lord. I have never ever heard chant type music at any of the 20+ churches I have been to in my general area shock.gif I feel so deceived lol!

I dont know if I can work up the nerve to bring this up. I think that my pastor and the community are seriously liberal. The music is just the tip of the iceberg and I may need my pastor to write a letter for me when I enter unsure.gif Oh man zunshynn lets pray for eachother!!
TheresaMF
Just dropping in on the hijak . . . ninja.gif

For those of you concerned about the modern state of music at your parishes, check out Crisis Magazine's recent article, "How to Start Your Own Garage Schola." This gives helpful tips about how you can actually introduce real sacred music to your parish, not just complain to your pastor. Also helpful in that regard would be the article "An Idiot’s Guide to Square Notes" about reading Gregorian chant.

Oh, and check out the author's website: St. Cecelia Schola!!
brandelynmarie
I am oh so checking out "An Idiot's Guide to Square Notes"!!!! cans.gif Thanks!

Alone I carry me time to seek those of Poland, the remainder already I know them and the encounter very facil, told me that in Poland was as if the time stop in the 60 years, full seminars, massive entrances to the congregations, congregations that don't use the habit, they continue using in Poland, traditional uniforms for postulants, as i am curious seek on the internet.
Zunshynn, i bother me a little your comment, it of Africa (Angola) is a ceremony of entrance to postulancy, it represents the continuation of the Church by religious natives, they do not have material media for the ceremonies that have seen up to now of other congregations.
Those sisters missionaries, have endured decades in Angola with few media, in half of a bloody war.
The work missionary, along with the clausure, is the major degree of delivery to God. It said this by the religious that I know,
Veritas, i like my your links,

Here's another (Italian/French Dominicans):
http://www.institute-christ-king.org/AdorersRoyalHeart.htm
Those are neither Italien nor French nor Dominicans...
cf. this wikipedia article - Their real name is Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus Christ Sovereign Priest, the female convent's spirituality is based on
- benedictine rule
- Francis de Sales
- traditional roman catholic lifestyle (indult tridentine mass)
- ...

I know there were tons of pictures of investiture on this website, but I don't find them right now... P.gif

But I have to admit that I'm always a bit suspicious towards a convent that is convinced that Novus Ordo was never good... reminds me of CMRI mellow.gif

I'm sorry, did I call them something else? I haven't read the Wikpedia article (but remember those aren't always reliable), but I have been in contact with the community in Italy (Mother), and the Institute leadership ( Monsignor Schmitz) here in the states. Their formation houses are in France and Italy. They speak French and Italian during those times. Hence, I refer to them as French/Italian. I apologize if I wasn't clear. Their spirituality IS Benedictine/Salesian (note my "what was I thinking note" smile.gif ) --they follow the Salesian rule, so to speak, but I believe the sisters' habits are Benedictine.

I don't know if it's true that they were "convinced the novus ordo was never good", but they do have a huge devotion to the TLM --it made me a little uncomfortable, too.

Wow, what a lot of confusion! smile.gif
