This weekend Brandee was supposed to be with us for a visit. We've been planning this since March! Well, she's been sick all week and this morning had to call to cancel! Unfortunately, I didn't listen to the answering machine and headed off to the airport (I'm the community driver since we don't have externs) and after a bit realized that probably she wasn't on the flight! sad.gif

Do pray for her that she gets better. So far, half her vacation she's been sick. She's hoping to visit the Buffalo Dominicans next week if she gets better and God willing, will come to Summit if she can get some vacation time. She's disappointed and we are, too! We were looking forward to finally meeting!

She doesn't have Internet access at home so I know she won't mind if I share this for her. I did call her (one should visit the sick!) and we had a nice conversation but I think I made her laugh too much! Cough! Cough!

Aww... sad.gif I'll pray she gets better soon. How disappointing. And sorry you drove out there and she wasn't there Sr. Mary Catharine! I hope it's not too far a drive.

When I went for my visit at OLAM, the plane I was supposed to get on at Kansas City was a half hour late, so I called and left a message (or so I thought) on the brothers' answering machine to let them know I'd be late. And then on top of that, coming into Birmingham there was a storm and the pilot wouldn't land for another 25 minutes.

Finally I get off and then when I found Br. Dan, I asked if he'd gotten my message, and he hadn't doh.gif . I felt terrible he'd been waiting for such a long time... and then the baggage claim took forever. Oy vey. But he was very patient. lol.

I'm from/in Buffalo and I'd be happy to meet another PM'er!

Good Evening Everyone!!

I just got off the telephone with Brandee. She is sounding and feeling a little better tonight. She hopes to go Buffalo next week.

Keeping praying for her everyone because it has been a hard week for her. She was determined to get on the plane this morning so it was tough for her to admit she couldn't make the trip.

All and all she is trusting in God's will and grace and as Brandee said tonight, she felt God is with her in her apartment.

Sister, where do the girls stay when they visit?

For the 1st visit which is usually a few days they stay in the guest quarters in the extern area.

If a young woman and the community mutually feel that an aspirancy is the next step than during the aspirancy she lives in the novitiate.

Hello Everyone,

Once again, I just spoke with Brandee on the telephone. She is still at Buffalo Dominicans due to a number of circumstances. She asked me to tell everyone what is happening with her right now.

First as most of you know Buffalo was hit by a major snowstorm. As a result, trees were down and roads were quite dangerous to drive on. Well, you guessed it Brandee was snowed in with others at the guesthouse.

Finally, Brandee began her trip home back to Ohio. She stopped in Hamburg NY for some gasoline and for something to eat. As she was leaving, she was rear-ended by another care. Brandee wasn't badly hurt but she did hit head and she hurt her jaw. Her car was towed the nearest garage and it looks like the damage is bad. Her insurance company is having her car towed to one of their garages and they will decided whether to write the car off or have the car fixed and give her a rental car. Meanwhile this left Brandee stranded so she called the monastery and Srs. Bernadette Marie and Sr. Rose of St. Mary came to rescue. The came and took her back to the monastery.

So she will see tomorrow what will happen next. The good sisters are taking care of her. When I was speaking to her, she had an ice pack on her jaw so she was needs some time to rest.

So please pray for Brandee. She been through quite a bit in the last little while and she needs the support. Brandee did tell me about her experience at the monastery but I think I will let our dear sister tell her story.

Thank you for your prayers!!

Good heavens! Thanks Donna for keeping us informed! I suspected that she would be at Buffalo a bit longer than she thought but a car accident!?!
If you talk to her please tell her that we are praying for her. Obviously, the "ole boy" is trying to get in the way!

I look forward to hearing about her visit!

Hello,

Brandee called me tonight. Unfortuately, I was at Theology on Tap and missed her call. However, she asked me to give the phatmass family an update.

Finally, she is home. A friend of hers came to Buffalo and picked her up. Needless to say the car is a write off. She is waiting right now to find out who is going to pick up the tab for a rental car.

She blesses everyone for your prayers. She says thanks so much and she is keeping all us in prayer including the Broke Daughters and Sons of St. Dominic. Brandee is home but as she said she is a little disoriented, that is, trying to readjust from all that has happened in the last few days. Not to mention, taking the time to listen and discern God's desire and will for her.

Hopefully, she will have access to a computer soon and she will be on to say Hi.

Believe me, Brandee has been blessed by our prayers. Blessed be God!!!
HeavenlyCalling
I am glad to hear she is all right, if a little disoriented ( who wouldn't be?)

Hello,

Spoke to Brandee tonight before she went to work. Believe me she is a whole lot better now. She had her head injury checked out at the hospital she works for and she is all right.

Right now she is carless and so she doesn't know when she will be able to have acess to the internet again. It could for a while. She misses everyone and she blesses everyone for their prayers. Be assured of her continued prayers for the phatmass family and the Broke Daughters and Son of St. Dominic.

Now to be a bit of a tease, when Brandee returns, she will some story to tell you.

Stayed tuned!!

Wow, I am sure it'll be a story of a lifetime. smile.gif Wow.

bye.gif I'm back & able to get on-line at my friend's house! I decided to continue with this thread since DonnaMarie was able to relay my adventures (I'm very grateful for her updating y'all) & I wanted to let y'all know that I'm grateful FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS! signofcross.gif signofcross.gif signofcross.gif signofcross.gif signofcross.gif I honestly cannot believe that I have experienced all of this in a matter of weeks! So, now I'm cured of the virus & pink eye & my head is much better as well as carless & looking for another car...But, & I believe this from the bottom of my heart, God took a scary experience & was able to relieve me from my car loan! So that is one debt I will not have to worry about!
So even though I never made it to Summit sadder.gif, I believe I have found my home in Buffalo love.gif...I felt "at home" within the first 24 hours I was there & my meetings with Sr. Rose (the novice mistress) kept confirming that...I was able to attend the Divine Office & talk with another young cloistered nun whose family was visiting from Canada (they got snowed in with me!) It was so good to live in God's house & I miss being there very much...Through the incidents that happened, I ended up spending a week with them instead of 5 days...the running joke was that I was unable to leave Buffalo! God willing, I will be able to visit them for a week in the Spring & then do part of my aspirancy next Fall...Deo gratias! blush.gif
VeniteAdoremus
I'm so glad you're back home safe! smile.gif

Now tell us all - how was the Divine Office? Were you allowed to attend all hours or only morning and evening prayer, or...? Did your opinion on snow change? smile.gif
brandelynmarie
I had keys to get into the church anytime I wanted to & was able to attend all the hours of the Divine Office (I only missed 24 hours after the accident). Um, what can I tell you...I fell in love with Dominican chant! Especially the Salve Regina at Compline! If I got up early enough, I would have a cup of coffee & maybe some toast before Office of Readings & Lauds at 5:35 am. There was about 45 minutes between that & Terce at 7:15 with Mass at 7:30. Sext was at 11:45 with the Angelus at noon. The community rosary was at 3:00pm with None. Vespers at 5:00 & then Compline at 8:00. Of course, the schedule slightly changed on Saturday & maybe Sunday...They chant the main hours in Latin & the rest in English...I was able to watch them through the grille & follow their posturing for sitting & standing & bowing (profound inclination). I miss it! sadder.gif
As for the snow? snowman.gif We sometimes get crazy storms in Ohio, but not until the Winter or early Spring...I've NEVER shock.gif seen such weird weather in October! 19" of snow literally overnight with thunder & lightning lasting until midnight! Unreal! blush.gif

Ask me anything! I hope I answered your question! blush.gif

I am happy you have found your home!

Now, I must continue to try to respond to His grace...& not be like the plant in Christ's parable that began to grow in joy, but then got sidetracked & withered away...(my own personal interpretation!) blush.gif
