Margaret Clare
I really like the blue grey of the Friars of the Immaculate.
IPB Image

But just as much, or even more, Carmelite brown ..
IPB Image

And also all the Franciscan shades, brown, grey, etc.

But also the off-white of the Carthusians, but even better, the Carthusian habit, with the light blue veil of the Srs of Bethlehem. :j

Awesome, yes, and expensive :x We had one in the gift shop at OLAM of a PCPA, and I don't think she was selling because of her pricetag.

VOLS?

I still think an orange habit for the Holy Spirit would be beautiful. There is no liturgical orange and blue is rare. I wonder why these colors are so neglected.

I was torn Between Blue and Brown b/c I think Blue is so Perfect for religouse b/c of our Lady...BUT I just LOVE PCPA's and Carmelites PLUS there is no way I would keep any thing but brown clean....
Ora et Labora
black and white, or brown black and white. those are always beautiful! happy.gif
johnnydigit
i was going to say black for men, white for women. since there was only one choice, i chose brown for both. it seems easier to maintain than solid black or solid white?
Ora et Labora
definitely hard to keep solid white clean! caption_yes.gif

VOLS!!! Yes, the University of Tennessee Volunteers! We're talking big-time college football, and the Lady Vols basketball team.

TN got dubbed the "volunteer state" because of the number of WWII volunteers that came from that state.

If not orange, what about apricot? I'm thinking handmaidens used to wear that color.

But, yes I can see where you're coming from where orange for the Holy Ghost is concerned.

Those are nice, there not the ones I was thinking of though, these ones were all red, with a white cape, I'll see if I can find a pic for you guys. They seem contemplative, but do teach college ( or did, at any rate )

edit:
here it is, finally! Yay me juggle.gif

Good find, Heavenly. Institute for Perp Adoration, AP.

But I can't find them on google now. Are they still around?!

--there are the Nuns of Perp Adoration in SF, a small house, ageing, in their beautiful red habit.

The Srs. of the Precious Blood wear black veil, white habit and red scap. Very nice. I wonder why they don't have more vocations.

I voted for maroon but I really meant dark brown and beige ... the color of the habit for the community I'm joining :-).

I hated brown but for some reason month after month it starts growing on me.

Well...I can give you an update on maroon, the Sisters in Jesus the Lord new foundation of Sisters in Saint Paul, Minnesota private assocation under the Canoness Regular Law [there are alot of cons to private assocation] When they become a public assocation their offical color habit will be maroon, except Sister Julia unless she ends up changing she is the founder, but made perpetual profession as a Mary Knoll sister until she answered a call by two Russian priests residing in Russia, sister asked, "What is it that you need most in Russia?" priests said, "NUNS! SISTERS!" Thus she founded the Sisters in Jesus the Lord for that purpose, and they do alot of other side things. Why am I bragging? I'll give you their community link, website.

http://www.cjd.cc/

And for maroon here is a pic from their website;

Yes take notice the postulant outfit is slightly different. Except in one pic I believe Collette their postulant has a bit of maroon and blue. Anyway...left to right, Collette, Sister Catherine Marie, Sister Maria Stella and Sister Julia Kubista. Sister Maria Stella was the first to enter, she has an interesting vocation story, granted they dont have them up on the website, but I asked her first hand on the coach bus from IRL back to MN she plays the harp and, hehe, then obviously Sister Catherine Marie was second to enter, plays the flute one of them plays the guitar, Collette actually just entered sometime last year so she will be soon enough a fellow novice companion unless Sister Catherine Marie is indeed getting the expiration date of the Novitiate. However news has it that another girl will enter sometime, may even already have in May! YAY!

JMMB,
Belinda Tyburn only have two habits to adapt to climate otherwise they wouldn't have. They wear the traditional Benedictine black in most places ( and don't change it) but the white is worn in Peru, Columbia, Equador and in real heat in Rome. They do wear a white cloak/cowl though as a remnant of their first habit before they were Benedictines - this habit was blue with a red cord and white cloak/cowl.

I like blue, very Marian. However, the Daughters of St. Paul wear a blue habit and they aren't...

Black. But the order that I want to join wears white.
Thomist-in-Training
I chose blue because the prettiest habits I ever saw were dark sky-blue with cream veils (and a rosary and Franciscan rope, called something like Slaves or Servants of the Immaculate but I'm not sure exactly what :'( ) and the next prettiest color-wise are probably the FSI (Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate). But Dominicans are also hard to beat. Sr. Mary Angelica OP from Nashville explained to me that she used to paint and wear all kinds of bright colors and people asked her how she'd cope with a white and black habit and she explained that white light is the presence of all color, and the same for black pigment! lol.gif

I saw a nun at the bank the other day. She was wearing a nice grey habit. I don't think I've seen grey that often before, but I liked it.

I don't know that I would agree that the Daughters of St. Paul aren't Marian (if I am reading this correctly...)
They are a very beautiful order of Sisters that are very devoted to the Church and all her teachings. They are very Eucharistic (I believe many of the bookstores have exposition) and the Sisters are faithful to the Magisterium. The Sisters that I know are very beautiful.
Is there any particular reason you say that? or did I misunderstand??
Saint Therese
I think I would have to say every color is awesome, but Dominican white rules!!! kitten.gif

I know the Daughters in Toronto very well:) They are a truly wonderful and beautiful order of sisters. I like their charism it's very original! In my experience, they have more subtle Marian aspects (they are placed under the protection of Mary, Queen of Apostles...I think). Their founder was very devoted to Mary. I meant that they are not as Marian, for example, as another order that I know that says the complete rosary or that makes a consecration the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Sorry for any confusion.

I dig the black for all who take religious vows. I dunno, it's just old school and hard core Catholic to me.

However, I'll take a habit of any color over street clothes any day! Most sisters I see around my diocese go with the modern, worldly outfits nowadays. While I can appreciate that it might be more functional to wear street clothes in certain situations, I like seeing someone "stand out" for their faith. Habits rock!

I love white habits. Not only because it's the color that Dominicans wear but white represents purity. White is also what a bride wears on her wedding day wink.gif

the meaning of white is a cultural thing.

I, too, like a white habit. The Navy has dress whites, very becoming ("An Officer and A Gentleman").

...but among hindus, white is the color of mourning (rent "Monsoon Wedding"--a very entertaining film).
puellapaschalis
Not to mention the fact that wearing white on one's wedding day was something that began as a fashion fad around the Victorian ear in Great Britain - so less than 200 years ago. Waaaaaay back when people were getting married in any kind of fancy get-up (when they could afford it) and the best they had at home (when they couldn't afford the fancy stuff).

I'm all for getting married in blue.

Back on topic......
Maria Faustina
White and Black= Dominicans, which= AWESOMENESS!!!! I am pretty sure the Lord wants me to be a Dominican, so maybe that is why I have an obsession with black and white.... which is probably why my favorite store is White House Black Market.........................
Caramelonion
As a future Poor Clare, I had to pick brown.
