The colors of the habit are significant love.gif , e.g., blue is the color of Mary and often symbolizes devotion to her, pink signifies the Holy Spirit, maroon signifies the blending of blue for Our Lady and red for Our Lord's Passion.

Blessings,

cappie
Brown (I'm a Capuchin so am biased)

White--it's the Dominicans. They've made me biased. P.gif

I was torn between brown (because of Carmel), maroon (because of the beautiful combination), blue (for Our Lady) and pink (for the Holy Spirit). Ultimately I chose pink, because I feel that the Holy Spirit encompasses all those other things, and it is the passion behind a religious sister's life.

Brown. It's poor, easier to keep clean then white (I am a slob) and I love Carmelites and Poor Claires!
VeniteAdoremus
I've picked grey because I love the dark grey habits of the Order of St. John, aestetically. But for myself, white, I think smile.gif
hugheyforlife
I chose grey but if I could have chosen two, I would have chosen brown as it is the traditional Franciscan color. However, grey is the color of the habit for the order I am currently discerning. smile.gif They too are Capuchins but do not wear brown.
Jennirom
White.... I just love the Dominican habit !!

I visited some Dominicans and the told me that their habits are designed to be completely reversible. I guess that is why they always appear without stains! disguise.gif

Woah... that's cool (regardless of if it's true or not).

I am partial to the Benedictines in black, but color really doesn't matter to me as long as they're wearing one!

QUOTE
These that are clothed in white robes, who are they? and whence came they? And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple: and he, that sitteth on the throne, shall dwell over them.
- Apocalypse/Revelation, Chapter 7

White-- Dominican.
stuckinamo
i like grey cos of the franciscan friars/sisters of the renewal. they're just so simple and blah that it makes them beautiful!!!! D.gif
AlterDominicus
BLACK AND WHITE. Symbol of Joy and Death, thats one reason why I love the Dominican habit.

Particularly Nashville, DSMME, and Summit. So its just great.
Staretz
I like all colours of habit. As long as it is black smile.gif
Romans1513
Other: Blue and white- I love the habits that the Sisters of Life wear.
the lords sheep
Blue- So that every time you look at it, we think of our Mother...

Who wears maroon??
fearundercontrol
I don't care--I just like to see the habit! smile.gif

Girl #1: Is it okay to hug a monk?

Girl #2: Yes, just as long as you don't get in the habit!

HAhaha.

I love gray habits! (ok i will be wearing one next year D.gif ) The habit of the Sisters of the most holy Savior (known as Brigidin Sisters) is very beautiful (and gray) and so unusual! (and i will wear it D.gif i'm so happy) I think gray is also a couler of the poor. Many monasteries wear it as the coler of the workin habits.

IPB Image

But i also like brown! becaus it's also the couler of the poor and Carmelits and the Sisters of Saint Claer wear it to! And the Franciscans and so on...
HeavenlyCalling
I LOVE the Brigitinne habit, I always thought it was so cool, and very distinctive, which is nice, I mean, I like to be able to tell what order you belong to by one look, Like the SMME with the necklace, or the ones with the blue and grey habit (the name totally slipped my mind)

Yes, I LOVE the Brigitinne habit as well! I'll never forget walking into one of "their" churches in Rome (unbeknownst to me) and seeing them in prayer! Taking turns before the exposed blessed sacrament in prayer in this BEAUTIFUL chapel! It was the first time I had ever seen Brigitinne sisters (I was a fairly recent convert)... And I was SO struck! It's one of my favourite memories. smile.gif

I'm so glad you're discerning with them Ave Maria!

Thank you for sharing my happyines! But the Brigitinne Sisters wich you mean are from the contemplativ-apostolic branche (who is the second or swedisch branch of the order) I will join the first branch who is establisht by Saint Brigitta and its only contemplativ and strictly inclosure. (is this correct english?sorry i'm not very god at it ) But they are wonderfull and i'm so happy that i can go to that monastery! love.gif

Oh thank you Jesus and Mary!

interesting to me, that allot of the 'new' communities in Europe, men and women, where blue, which personally for Sisters fine, but for men, looks out of place and odd to me, maybe a dark blue ... but... even then,

There was this order, pre-vatican 2 who wore these really cool red habits, I think they were nurses, it just looked so cool. I dont think any active orders wear red now, though ohno.gif sad.gif

Those Orders are cloistered, though, these ones weren't, unless they changed to a cloistered order, can you do that?

Do many Orders now adays have a feast habit, one that is different then the ones worn everyday?

[color=#000099]Blue! What could be a better way to imitate and think often of Our Blessed Mother? I wear it every day and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Ever hear of the poem "Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue"? It's all about Mary!
happynun
You gotta love any habit, but especially the more simple styles.

I dunno.... I have to say that "blueberry" is really the best shade of habit. P.gif
