I have a friend who is: a student here in Ottawa working on her Master in Linguistic. she is from Poland and a Lay Dominican.
She believes she may have a call to religious life. I gave her some info on SMME, she wrote SJA and now she is going to the retreat. So since I will be at the monastery at this time, I will be praying for all you for this weekend.

Thats super cool.

I know Sister Joseph Andrew will like that - also in the addition of being Polish. [Yeah I had those ties to]

I was thinking about it, but I live in NH, suddenly I had an image of me sitting in the airport for ten million years because the flights had been grounded due to weather, so I am going in May, and if I really enjoy it then I hope to go again in November 08 ( some SMME discerners, do they have a retreat in October for discerners only, or am I confusing them with someone else?)

They are originally Feb, May, and October, something happened in October that the Sisters had to change it to Nov.

Of, okay, that makes sence. I am technically too young to go to the retreat ( since they moved the age up), but I got grandfather claused in, and by Nov, I will be in the right grade, so I just luck out!

You sound like a Canadian!!
I try to avoid flying in the winter as well. I have been snowed in once at O'hara airport in January. It took three days for my luggage to find me. There was a possiblilty that they wouldn't put my baggage through because we weren't on the same flight!!

you're going again? That's great. I went on two of the retreats and enjoyed them very much. they area grat community and I love the Dominican's very much. I will keep all of you who are going in my prayers and I pray that the Holy Spirit would go before you and that the Lord will prepare your hearts
at the beginning of December I was at a Philosophy conference at Notre Dame and 4 of the novices and one professed sister from SMME were there and two from Nashville. It was great seeing them and having there presence at the conference. They send some sisters to the conference every year, that's where I met Sister Joseph Andrew for the first time in 2005

Yup I'm going again.
I met Sister Joseph Andrew at NET for the 1st time in 2005. OO....but that conference would be neato to go to. I told sister when I went to the Nov retreat, that it was our one year anniversary since we've seen one another, haha.

I wish I was going so soon!! I was e-mailing SJAB yesterday and she said for like the tenth time :
" Your coming in Feb, right hon?"

and I had to tell her again that I had to wait until May. Of course, if I had known that there was going to be no snow here then I would have been the first one reserved for the Feb. retreat.
By the way, how many sisters DONT teach at school. I was looking at a picture of them having lunch and there seemed to be six or seven sisters with black veils sitting there. I know Sr. Joseph Andrew doesn't, because she does all the e-mail and stuff, but who else and what do they do all day?
AlterDominicus
Jan 10 2007, 05:47 PM
I havent been at the school, school during actual school days, but I know the majority of the sisters since they are in formation do not teach, there is actually alot more lay teaching at SSA then actual sisters, I think Sister Mary Joseph said about four sisters teach and SSA, not sure which one, but really the only difference is that the SMME administrate the school(s).
As for what they do all day do you mean the school docket or just the average day to day life docket of the sisters?

Where did you see this pic? Is it on the website? Sounds interesting....I think one of the sisters told me that four are teaching at the moment but I could be wrong. As far as I know the rest are pursuing their teachers certificate or other education and doing the usual jobs that keep things up and running at the convent

I know one Sr I met works with the "Pledge of Future Glory" campaign but I am not sure what all that entails?? I am soon to attempt the sewing of my postulant outfit...yikes!

It was in an article about them, and they had a link on their new website. Only four are teaching in Ann Arbor?

Well for a while there were a some in DC studying at Catholic U... and then there were some (the same?) doing a show on EWTN... so that might account for the ministriy of a few more of the professed....

I'm insanely, er, not
jealous, of course, but...

I was looking at the price of plane tickets to America the other day (mainly because I'm also planning a trip for my student choir and a complete symphony orchestra), and... it's over two months rent. So I
could go maybe once this or next year... but then I wouldn't be able to go to the WYD...

So you'll have to give me and the rest of VS a full report, understand?

I heard that LTU is having some massive sales- if you can clear your schedule you can get from New York to Dusseldorf, Germany and back for under $200. Apparently they have this sale every winter. It's still expensive and you would have to figure out how to get to Michigan and Germany, but I can't imagine it ever getting any cheaper.

Heavenly Calling,
Hello! Do you want to go on the February SMME retreat...?
Is it a timing issue or a funding issue...?
If it's a funding issue, perhaps I could be of assistance...?
(If I missed your reason for not being able to go on the Feb retreat... so sorry... I get a little lost in some of these threads!
Let me know...
God bless and prayers for you,
FaithfulRose
P.S. Ah, yes the SMMEs are growing... it is beautiful! Praise God!

faithfulrose,
Thank you very much for offering your help, but it was mostly a timing issue. I live in NH, and I didn't want to have to worry about the weather grounding my plane or something like that. Also, both my 16th birthday and my Confirmation are also in May, so it'll be nice to go away, if only for the weekend!
I just realized that there is no school on the Monday after the retreat, would it be possible for me to stay a day longer? Is that alllowed?

Hi!
My name is Mandy, and I am new to the site...yay this is my first post!

I am attending the February retreat, and I am sooooooooooooooooooooo excited! I can hardly wait!
I have been discerning the religious life for the past few years, and I think that the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist are so incredible! Even though I have never met them face to face, their joy seems contagious!

Thanks, and I hope to meet you all there (weather willing...we've been getting quite a bit of snow in Colorado!)

The retreat was very good. I found that God is not calling me there, and that I feel called elsewhere, and she said GOOOOOD!! It surprized me, but she was very happy that I am still listening to God and that I am willing to follow. It was a very peaceful retreat. An aquantence from my church back home that I didn't know was coming was there, and found she was called there this weekend and got papers! She's only been discerning for a couple of months, and she hadn't told her mom that she was looking into religious communities. She also had to break up with her boyfriend... ahhh! Keep her in your prayers! She feels really good about it, and I'm really happy for her!

Feb 28 2007, 12:31 PM
Um....hahaha, I dont know where to really start my little summary up. It was a FANTASTIC, BEAUTIFUL, EMOTIONAL retreat, better then the first one I attended in November. I found particularly in Eucharistic Adoration mostly after it that God was calling me even more strongly to the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist then He did like 4 days ago - I still have a couple complications - I was really stubborn with Sister Joseph Andrew, hahaha, I was determined and still am in a more calm way I guess to kinda get the "message through", I had an interesting conference with Sister at the Motherhouse which ended in her ordering me to go to bed, hahaha, God love Sister, and I guess in a way I knew Feb was a little to early to ask, but it didnt hurt to try! And I think Sister agrees, we've sent like 9 emails back and forth since I've been back. And one of them was really interesting that left my contemplating.
The really only BAD thing about the weekend was I lost my Social Security, my two student ID cards, my birth certificate, and my banking account. My WHOLE LIFE is 800 miles away and the sisters cant find it, and on a side note, I am going through a little bit more suffering and withdrawal.
