This past summer one of my bestest friends ever took her first vows with the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word (if you get their newsletter there's a few pictures of her in it ). Her parents were married "later in life" so they are a bit older (her dad has to be about 75 now), but they visit her as often as they can.

After her profession her mother wrote me detailing how the ceremony went (I was devestated that I was unable to attend), and stated proudly, "Now both my children are married." It brought a tear to my eye when I read it so when I wrote my friend again shortly thereafter I made a point of telling her how sweet I thought it was. In her Christmas card she thanked me for telling her, she said that since she doesn't get to talk to her family as often anymore she isn't always sure what they are thinking (her mother especially, they were always incredibly close), it meant alot to her to know that her mom is so proud of her.

I know there aren't alot of parents here (and I am sure I don't need to tell any of them to vocalize their support ), and alot of those discerning don't have as much support as they ideally should... but someone feels about those of you who are discerning just the way my friend's mom feels about her, even if they don't say so.

You're welcome. I've wanted to post this for awhile but wasn't sure exactly how to put it... its just something that has really touched me. I have always felt so proud of my friend, and thought her vocation was beautiful (she GLOWS, its absolutely where God wants her), it never occured to me that she might wonder if people didn't feel that way, so when I got her letter I knew I definately had to share. I think sometimes we take it for granted that the people in our lives just know how we feel... but it never hurts to repeat the good things. I wish we remembered that more often.
