I visited with them many years ago. If you're discerning active religious life, they are a beautiful community! love.gif I think it's especially wonderful that they are going to Africa to help the sick and dying children and elderly there.

This is slightly off thread but still on the subject of hair...I read of a Benedictine Community which was founded in Lithuania and after escaping from the Russians in 1944,the sisters went to Italy and eventually founded the Regina Pacis Convent in USA in 1957 which was closed in 1998. The sisters were not allowed to cut their hair because they always feared the country would be invaded one day ,forcing them to flee in lay dress as they had to from the Russians in 1944. There are pictures of the Sisters here :- http://www.news.webshots.com/photo/1004038...78899wHHyiqwWLL

I read a lot of children's novels about the war... and one thing that stuck with me was the lead character not understanding why a Bad Man laughed at the Sisters she was staying with and yelling that they should start growing out their hair...

St. Theresa Benedicta of the Cross was yanked out of her cloister, together with her sister, after the Bishops sent out a public letter against the Nazi occupants. The war was horrible. And maybe the little details, like how it permeated even through the veils of nuns, show it best.

And to get back on a happier note wink.gif

This is me wearing PP's mantilla - clearly I should cut my hair a little shorter so that it covers it all! smile.gif

(Hm, since "a little" would mean 5 inches at least, maybe not.)

I can't see the picture.

(PP hijacking here - it's just easier, trust me, and don't worry, VA is fine, we'll pay the ransom...)

We think that there are problems with the server that the picture is hosted on. As a backup ('cos we're STOER, we are), have a clicky here. smile.gif

Love and prayers,

PP-masquerading-as-VA.

PS Sorry, we're just in very silly moods this evening. If you think this is bad, drop to your knees and thank the Lord PROFUSELY that you weren't around here last night. Or at least, that last night we weren't anywhere near Phatmass. Because...oh, never mind wink.gif)

Ok. Clearly I ingested/inhaled(notlikethat)/somethinged something today which has turned my brain into complete wacko.gif mush.

Why this is almost turning into a blog post I don't know wink.gif All I do know is - bedtime! goodnight.gif

But as a parting note - doesn't VA look pretty in my mantilla? Shouldn't she absolutely love it should I get her one as a present the next time I'm in London? Hm? Hm? Hm? D.gif

Love and so-sleepy-I'm-almost-comatose prayers,

PP love.gif

It's beautiful. love.gif

Ok, ok; it was time to follow up on my own post! :-)

But ... I had a bad hair day on the 23rd of December. The hair stylist (my normal one) really didn't do a good job. It looks pretty bad -- one of the priest in the community I've been visiting has actually made a comment like "what's up with your hair", to which I responded "its a really bad cut".

Oh well, maybe by another 2 weeks it'll be long enough to try to do something to correct it.

So I'll live with it for now ... I may start to look into using gel to try to get the stuff that sticks up to kind of stay in place.

Well; a bad haircut does start to grow out. My hair looks much more presentable now with this last cut. However ... its still having trouble :-). My (new) hairstylist says that she'll really be able to restyle the hair on the next cut (I needed another inch; but my hair was kind of stunned into not growing as much as it would have).

It almost looks really good .... at least now I don't have to worry about getting another "what's up with your hair comment" blush.gif .

I cut off all my hair back in october.... i dontated it to Beautiful Lengths...

i went from midway down my back... to shorter than my Jawbone

its about a half inch past my jabone right now....

more than 10 inches....

My hair is incredibly thick too.. its chestnut brownish... and the ponytail was about the size of... well... bigger around than a golfball, but smaller than a clemintine orange (hehe)

lol... so now it poofs out, its a good thing i really dont care about my apperence, cuz it really doesnt look good most days =D

so... in the convent... do you have to have long hair? or can it be short... im confused, some people have said that they keep cutting it off, others that they keep it in braids... i guess it depends on the Order, but if my hair was long, it would not dry for days in a braid... and its really hard to braid anyway because its so thick... i unfortunately do not know how to put pictures on either, otherwise i would share a picture of it before i cut it....

May you walk eternally in God's footsteps!! =D

First, I think most here who have said they braid it have not been invested. They're waiting to cut it off! smile.gif

Second, to post a picture, follow this format (changing out the url for your own, of course):

CODE
[url]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/161/340261233_a8cfcb713e.jpg[/img]

If you don't have an online photo host, try flickr or photobucket. Both are free and easy to use. My preference is now flickr. thumbsup.gif
