Ok, so I have a list of recommendations that I need. One of those is a current coworker. For those of you who don't know, which is probably everyone

I am an accountant and our busiest time, tax season, is upon us. I have an idea of who I want to ask to write the recommendation, but I'm afraid that if I say anything she will slip and not be able to keep it a secret and my lead partner (my boss) at the firm will find out, and it will leak all over the office. I want to do it as soon as I can, but I also don't want to wait a long time and delay my entire application because I'm afraid it will get out and they will fire me.
Help!!! Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Tina

I have heard that it's very hard to prevent the news from leaking. You might just want to risk it and use it as an opportunity to answer people's questions about religious life. Otherwise, maybe you could just wait until the last minute?

They'd fire you if they found you were considering religious life?
Wow. I'd ask your vocation directress her advice. . .if you can wait until the last minute. Otherwise, I'd place it in your Spouse-to-be's Hands and trust that he'll take care of you.
May our Lord bless you.

Tina, I say go ahead and ask the person to write the recommendation. It is always good to preface something like that with the idea that you would like this to remain confidential (and emphasize that). If the person is trustworthy they will keep it between the two of you. If not, then you might be pleasantly surprised by people's reactions with your future direction in life. Truly God is in control and when it is His time for you to get that recommendation it will happen....
You know I'm here to support you and am so excited to have you joining us!! If there is ever anything I can do let me know-feel free to call me about this one...

I agree with what others have said, go ahead and ask for the recommendation so you can continue with your discernment and application process, and just leave it all in our lords hands, and as for them firing you, I don't think they could do that just because you are considering religious life and you might actually be surprised and find your co-workers and boss even support your vocation, I was truly surprised when I told my supervisor of my acceptance and my soon-to-be resignation, and she was so kind and happy for me and even wants to come to my entrance ceremony, so just keep it all in our dear lords hands and trust him completely, if it is truly his will he's calling you there, all will work out!
God Bless You!

Tina,
How long will the application process take? It is possible that you may not even have your application approved until after tax time. Are you on good terms with your boss (that might be the key here)? Is anyone there aware that you think you have a vocation? Are they OK with it, or are they hostile to your faith? If you are on good terms with the powers in charge at the office, and if the application process may extend after tax time, it is possible that there may be nothing to worry about. But every office has its own politics, and only you know how the players play out.

talk to the directress, and explain the situation. That is important.
But God will take care of you, take the leap of faith.

Tina-
I know exactly what you mean about trying to keep things quiet, especially where you work, because it does add a little bit more pressure to the process when everyone knows about it... especially because the application is already gigantic! haha. Luckily, I work in a convent so I didn't have to worry about my employer recommendation or coworker one too much, hahaha, but I do understand how you feel because of the college. I tried to keep things quiet at Immaculata but eventually keeping that kind of secret becomes a stressor in itself. Maybe you could just make sure the person knows to keep it quiet and just leave the rest to God. No matter how it turns out, He will take care of you!!
Prayers!!
