Ok this is probably a really silly question but I was wondering how nuns/sisters that wear veils like those at OLAM receive ashes seeing as their foreheads are covered

Good question! and those who wear mostly white habits also.

I got my ashes and Father layed it on thickly and got some on my white sweater and shirt, the lady next to me got some all over her nose!

lol! I mistakenly wore a white coat and I got ashes all down my nose, the front of my coat and my arm which really made me wonder what happens when, God willing, I wear the Dominican habit and how other sisters get ashes. It really was a humbling experience because I have never had ashes like that before.....I had a cross from the top of my hairline, down between my eyebrows and from one temple to the other! This new priest is really into ashes but it showed me my vanity and helped my humility as people broke out laughing as they passed me

that's a good question, I too wonder that as in my community the novices and professed wear white veils with white crownbands, and us aspirants/postulants wear a white postulant dress, maybe they just put it a lil lower on the forehead, I'll be interested to find out

Hahahaha...............I MUST laugh at that question BECAUSE I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooooooooooooo glad I wasn't the only CRAZY one out there thinking that ALL DAY during Ash Wednesday! Thank's for savin' me Allison!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thining about that too, esp. with habits like the Lockport Dominicans wear, that covers thier forhead, hmm

I thought about that also as I waited in line. Some ashes dropped on my nose and I had to clean up a bit before going to work.

I've known some contemplative nuns and they seemed to get their ashes around the brow/nose region... and then the priest got some on their forehead band and they looked rather irked over it... lol.
