I rent several at a time. Of those, I would recommend these:
Batman Begins (really cool!)
On a Clear Day (a little British dramedy featuring Billy Boyd)
Wayne's World (it's old, but I hadn't seen it. Pretty funny.)
Japanese films:
Yojimbo and Rashomon are always good. I liked Yojimbo better, but it's a matter of taste.

TOP Ten Reasons I Didn’t Particularly Care For The Movie “300”
As for a modern remake Rudulph Mat’e’s “The 300 Spartans” and Walter Hill’s “The Warriors” did it much better.
I understand it was inspired from a graphic novel but it was too “comic booky”.
It took me three days to wash off all the testosterone.
May have been better filmed as an epic adventure instead of an “MTV video”.
Stiff dialogue and speech patterns that removed me from the time period.
“SEPIA-vision” gives me a headache.
Slow motion to regular film speed. Slow motion to regular film speed. Just pick one!!
I never recovered from my dislike of Frank Miller since Dark Knight 2.
For some reason I kept waiting for it to turn into a musical.
I only counted 176.

Requiem has to be the most disturbing movie I've ever seen. After watching it I felt sick. Most people I know who have seen it said they felt the same way. I'll say that it was brilliantly made and director Aronofksy has great talent. Which is kind of a shame that it was such a great move because I just don't have the stomach to watch it again.

Z CHANNEL: A MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION
DVD/ Color/ 120 Mins./ NR/ 2004
Founded in 1974 and based in Los Angeles, the Z Channel was the nation's first pay-cable station, preceding HBO or Showtime. At its pinnacle in the early 1980s, it served only 100,000 viewers, but nonetheless inspired and influenced the movie industry with its eclectic fare, securing a unique place in film history. IFC Films and director Xan Cassavetes celebrate the Z Channel and its founder, Jerry Harvey, with this captivating documentary.
Finally, a profile of someone with a passion for diverse films. I was enthralled with this documentary and only wished that I had access to this channel when I was younger. Jerry Harvey was not only knowledgeable of film, he trusted his audience with what he knew he enjoyed and did not pander to the common Hollywood denominator.

While looking, he finds a mysterious isolated hotel where he decides to take a rest. Not only are the front desk clerks a bit strange, but even the ambiance feels unusual. Minami soon realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for. …

DVD/Color/96 Min./R (language and sexual content)/2006
what an interesting film. just for reference, i'll probably be on here often. film is a love of mine, next to audio/music.
anyway, i thought the film was really funny. it followed the PR man for cigarettes. a lot of interesting moral and philosophical thought starters. it portrayed the lead as the "hero", but yet you laughed when he said something not quite morally correct, because you knew he was wrong. so, and interesting film. the language not really necessary, the sex certainly not needed, but there was no nudity, so at least they had that going for them.
so, a funny flick. i enjoyed parts of it. the humor was done well. would i watch it again? probably not. but that's mostly because there are so many other films still to see.

Why Wal-Mart Works - And Why That Makes Some People Crazy
Documentary, DVD, 72 Min
After the film, I told my wife, "OK, I won't pick on Wal-Mart quite so much anymore." It's a good study of basic economics, using Wal-Mart as the example. There is a little sociology explored with the opponents of Wal-Mart. It's fascinating to listen to people bash Wal-Mart with absolutely silly logic.
Like any documentary, I'm sure it's a little one sided.
Sha-Ron's story pulls at the heart strings.
Checked it out from our local library, I suggest you do the same.
For those of you in Minnesota, you'll recognize a water tower in the film! Also, if you live in Dakota County, just request it through your local library, they can get it.

VICE SQUAD
DVD/ Color/ 93 Mins./ R/ 1982
Director Gary Sherman helms this cult exploitation classic, following the undercover efforts of a Los Angeles businesswoman turned prostitute (Season Hubley) -- known only by her street name, Princess -- to bring down a violent pimp named Ramrod (Wings Hauser). Under the watchful eye of Detective Tom Walsh (Gary Swanson), who's tracking her every move, she works to solve the brutal murder of a streetwalker named Ginger (Nina Blackwood).
In the “You Can’t Go Home Again” department I thought it would be interesting to revisit this film 20 years later and I am sorry to say at the time I thought it was a quirky film but the only thing that holds up today is that Wings Hauser still turns in a very twisted performance as RamRod. The commentary should be interesting.
