Actually those sisters were from St. Emma's in Pennsylvania. They ran the cafeteria at the Benedictine seminary and college at Latrobe for many years. The sisters came over from Germany right before WW2.

Founded by Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, CT, I think, OSB of the primitive observance, in communion. May now be independent.

smokey.gif Wish i had a scanner or whatever.I have some old family photos of my great aunt ,Sister Mary Generose
in both the original and modified habit of the School Sisters of Notre Dame that i wish I could post for everyone.
She's buried in their convent cemetery in Elm Grove,Wisconsin.I don't know if I have any photos of my late cousin,Sister John Edna, who belonged to the Sisters of Charity of Nazerath,KY. I think there is one of her wearing the modified habit. They used to wear a black habit with a shoulder cape, and a white bonnet if I recall.

Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles Priory of Our Lady of Ephesus

About this picture: The latest addition to the Priory is an antique 6' 2'' statue of St. Benedict found in an antique store. This plaster and hemp statue, originally formed right on a faux marble wooden pedestal, was cut off below the feet. We are giving him a humble place of honor until we can build an appropriate niche for him at the new monastery. He needs to be up high; as you can see he is meant to be looking down lovingly on his daughters.

holly

Yes, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth used to wear a simple black habit with a cape and a white bonnet (cap) that was similar to the old Kentucky sun bonnet - which was not a modified habit. Their foundress was Mother Catherine Spaulding.

They are the cloistered-contemplative Nuns of the Order of Preachers.
They are not active. They are the same as us.

Our veil might look nicer but I bet theirs is cooler! :-(
