IF i understand correctly, the JeruShalom movement of Hasidic Jews and some arabs, in Israel, etc. had an inter-religious visit, trip, exchange, with some group of mystical type community of Sikhs on tour of the Holy land, where they stopped at The Sisters of Bethlehem The Assumption, and St. Bruno, with some of the surrounding Community near Jerusalem, for a visit.
Obviously not allll the Sisters attended but a small few.

These are the founding nuns of our monastery in Nairobi, Kenya. North Guildford is our daughter house and Kenya is our granddaughter house. They refer to our monastery as "Grandma's house."

Most of the nuns return to the US and in fact, quite a few of the group even left religious life. This was during the turbulent time of the 60's. Sr. Kathleen, one of the foundresses, is the only one living. She was originally from our monastery.

Besides the Code of Canon law, and the express wish of The Popes, that Religious wear a distinctive habit, i thought this Blog entry form a "fulfilled Jew" convert to Evangelical Protestantism, living in an eastern US state.. was interesting..

QUOTE
I was walking to a training for work a while ago. As I was walking a car pulled down a driveway I was crossing and in it sat two catholic Sisters dressed in traditional garb. Immediately, almost instinctively, I had this moment of reverence. I think I almost put my hand to my heart or up to salute, I’m not really sure, all I know is I felt this need to show some sort of respect or honor, as if a King was passing.
A couple days later Mindy and I were driving on the highway and passed another vehicle with four Sisters in it. Again, I felt this sense of reverence and need to show honor. Mindy and I talked about it for a little bit and she helped me decipher a little why we feel so much respect and admiration for nuns.

The visible commitment to their faith, is almost unrivaled in our American culture. Even on my most devote day of religious commitment I seem half-hearted compared to a lifelong commitment these honorable women have put forth. Were does that commitment come from? Why are there so few examples of it in our culture? I certainly made me think about my commitment to Our Lord.
I really do feel a level of reverence for nuns and monks. I think it should be mandatory to salute them when they come by, or something of that nature.

Maybe I can glean some wisdom from some nuns who blog,?

Little Sister at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (Rome).

Being that the Little Sisters of Jesus , with a some exceptions for some African and India and other eastern countries, have stopped wearing a habit, except sometimes the dark blue veil alone in Islamic countries... and yet they never wore/wear a scapular. as the Sister in your photo
.so here is Little Sister Magdalene, in Algeria 30 years ago

i am inclined to think your photo is of a Sister of the Lamb from France, as seen below., who are quite present in the streets and Churches of Rome.

Does anyone else know if there are other communities that, like the Community of the Lamb, are "branches" of the Dominican Order? (I know the Community of St. John had a Dominican founder, but I don't think they considere themselves to be a branch of the family tree. I mean in terms of spirituality... b/c one could argue that apostolic sisters are a "branch" as are lay (single or married) Dominicans.)

sorry should have put this with the pic
http://www.communautedelagneau.org/communa...eau-anglais.php
while they are truly a Dominican Branch, since <in French, they have 'O.P.' after the Community name., but meeting them in Paris..St Francis is also their Patron as well, they feel they are both of Franciscan and Dominican unity

"Following Jesus poor and crucified and in the footsteps of Saint Dominic and Saint Francis, incessantly praying the Name of Jesus, and seeking out after the lost sheep who have wandered furthest away, they go from door to door begging their daily bread.
Witnesses of God’s mendicant love.
Witnesses of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ"
...if you are called to an order, to be a begger for The Lord ,and a hitchhiker for Jesus.preaching in the streets and universities,.with no place to lay your head, as The Master...this is for you

I saw this picture from the ones of Fr. Philippe's funeral. She is a OP but what congregation.
Cappa UNDER her guimpe! Good heavens! Who ever heard of that!

I know that there is a new congregation of OP Sisters that wear the full coif in the Toulouse Province. They were at the 01 General Chapter as translators but weren't supposed to be there. There was some communication mix up. Do you know what congregation they could be?

well, all i know is that this photo is from Fontgombault Benedictine Abbey at the ordination's of Frat. of St.Peter Priests there in 2004...she seems only with 3 others
perhaps representing??...being where she is and why,
i am not aware of any Traditional Dominican Nuns in France except for ones at Avrillé who are close friends with Soc. of St. Pius Xth?..which i doubt would go represent at FSSP and Fontgombault..
perhaps sending an email with pic to the Fraternité Saint-Vincent-Ferrier ,at Chémeré-le-Roi,(who use the Dominican Usage of Tridentine Rite), would know?i can do this if you'd like Sister?

AHA! i should have known,,IF the CANONESSES wear black capes ,under? guimpe? then they are the CHANOINESSES RÉGULIÈRES DE LA MÈRE DE DIEU at Gap?France.who would definetly <(sorry Margret Clare) be at the FSSP ordinations at Fontgombault

Érigée, en l’an 2000, en « Monastère de droit pontifical » par la Commission Ecclesia Dei, elle compte à ce jour une vingtaine de membres.
seems allot of the Canonesses have white veils, and a few with black..the Superior has white. so i am not suer what this means...unless most photos are from the early foundation days..and very few had black veils.

Right, I forgot, I did see these photos on the FSSP site.

The OP Sisters I'm talking about are not nuns but sisters and they are "traditional" in the broader sense. They're not 62 Missal (I'm trying to get used to saying that and not Tridentine!) as far as I know. I don't think they are associated with the FSVF's with whom I've had contact as we sent them many sets of OP breviaries.

Thanks!

All it means is that OP nuns and friars NEVER wear their cappa (the black mantle) UNDER the cape or guimpe the way this sister is wearing it in the picture!

Sometimes, when an aspirant comes for the 1st few days she goes crazy trying to figure out the "monastery" language! I guess it's a dialect of the "Catholic" language! rolleyes.gif

Dear Lord Jesus, the Great Healer, I kneel before you, since every perfect gift must come from you. I pray, give skill to my hands, clear vision to my mind, kindness and meekness to my heart.
