I was just wondering if there are still Sisters whose apostolate it is to work with orphans, like running an orphanage. Does anybody know of any communities that do this?
Totus Tuus
The Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus have childrens' homes. My friend, who is a sister there, mentioned (if I remember correctly) working with orphaned children in the U.S. I am guessing there are many more such apostolates within Orders in different countries. I think in the U.S. it is more of the norm for those children to be adopted or placed in foster care, though I am not sure.

The Salesian Sisters still do that, but not in the US. They have a number of orphanages in Eastern Europe, India, and Africa.

I can't specifically think of an American-based order that works (exclusively) with orphans. However, have you checked out the Sisters in Jesus the Lord? They give aid to a parish in Russia that works with orphans.

The Sisters of Notre Dame run a children's home.
One of the vocation directors is the executive director of the home.

There are still childrens' homes who call themselves "orphanages." There is an orphanage association with a website.

In some cases, a "childrens' home" is different from an orphanage. A "childrens' home" usually indicates that the children are coming from dysfunctional homes. An orphanage is just that--a home for orphans.

Our Congregation of Charity of the Miraculous Medal, Servants of the Poor will conduct orphanages. Then some of the CCMM sisters will split off to found the Sisters of the Transfiguration and Holy Wounds.

Will the Congregatioin of Charity of the Miraculous Medal, Servants of the Poor work only with orphans? Or, will they have another apostolate as well?

Thanks! I was trying to think of who I was forgetting--and it was this wonderful community!

Many other apostolates, which is listed under the "Ministries and Work" link from the homepage.

Just today I was outlining the mission of a private girls' school I hope to open someday in Greensboro, NC (up the road from me). A school for young ladies who will be trained to be refined in manners, and gracious, polite, modest, etc. The CCMMs would be in charge of the school.

All of the proposed active charisms will be founded by the CCMMs, and those are found under the "Foundations and Renewals" page.

I also just published a "joint foundations" website, listing the proposed charisms who will be founded by both the Cloisterites and the CCMMs.
