I sadly am not currently in Nashville, because if I was I'd be partying-it-up with the Nashville Dominicans! They really know how to have a good time on big feast days, especially St. Dominic's. All I've got nothing planned for myself except Mass and a Rosary... I need some ideas too!
Deus_te_Amat
oh i wish i were in Nashville!!! anyone wanna set up an emergency nun run? please?

mass... that would be so nice..... sad.gif

hmm...

we should plan topray a certain prayer at the same time in honor of him, and his teachings and all those following his lifestyle.. perhaps?

Ora et Labora
i'll go on an emergency nun run!! lol_grin.gif i've bever been to the nashville dominicans...and i'm dying to go!
VeniteAdoremus

In the meantime... I might have an ice cream in his honour wink.gif Oh, and I just changed my pink bedsheets for black and white, does that count? lol_grin.gif

No, seriously, I brought my breviary to the lab today for the feast. But I haven't used it yet blush.gif

Well... I go to (work at) a Dominican school... and we're celebrating with Mass and an ice-cream social (it's also a going-away party).

Did you get a copy of their August e-newsletter? It was so delightful and full of wonderful "Dominic" things.

Yesterday, I put on a black and white skirt and thought to myself "I have to save this for tomorrow!" So I swapped that skirt with a blue one and I'm wearing all black and white today! lol_grin.gif:

Happy Feast Day to all! Special thoughts go out to our Summit Dominicans and their chock full novitiate. Believe me when I tell you, cloistered nuns know how to make the day very special.

Deus_te_Amat

Sr. Mary Catharine
We had the entire CFR novitiate over for Mass. It's a tradition that the FRANKS and DOGS get together on this day as we BOTH consider St. Dominic AND St. Francis OUR HOLY FATHER.

Then we talked and talked and someone gave us a lucious chocolate cake for Dinner!

We have the A/C on in choir ALL DAY! That's a treat!

Most of all, we sing the office of St. Dominic in great solemnity! We just enjoy being together.

If it were cooler we'd play a game outside but it's too humid! Maybe this afternoon we'll play "Miniature pool'! I'm not kidding! It's a table top pool table! It's great fun! Just my speed.

HAPPY FEAST TO ALL! THANKS ALICE MARY for your greetings!

Margaret Clare
Happy Feast day, St. Dominic!

Yep, the Franciscans also consider him their Holy Father. saint.gif I think that's pretty cool - and visa versa with the Dominicans and St. Francis. smile.gif
Ave Maria Totus Tuus
Yay, I love all the responses! I'm wearing white today. Sr. Mary Catharine, so awesome how you converge with the Franciscans today! Talk about two incredible men in Sts. Francis and Dominic.

Yes, I did get the most recent Nashville Dominicans, full of Dominic goodness indeed!

On a side note, if any of you are ever planning to visit the Nashville Dominicans, PLEASE let me know! I'd love to come meet you, as I still have yet to meet any phatmassers in person. I know they've announced their retreat schedule for this year, check it. I'll definitely be on the first Jesu Caritas weekend this October.

Yay Dominicans!!!!!!

Yay Dominicans!!!!!!

I was there this past May--it's amazing how far the motherhouse has come in one year since the end of the construction.

Do you know when the sisters receive the habit and make vows? Two girls from St. Louis will have new names! And a friend of mine from grade school is making first vows. It's very exciting!
Deus_te_Amat
this is random, but do you know Sister Teresa Anne? she just left the Novitiate and is now a full sister

Yes I think I remember the face/name.... yes, I just checked on their website (she's one of the sisters under Community-Sister Profiles). She left the novitiate? Many prayers, may she walk with God always.
Deus_te_Amat

The postulants received the Holy Habit of St. Dominic on July 27th. Final vows were on July 29th, and First Vows on July 30th. Sadly, I was out of the country!!! I still have yet to attend a vow ceremony. I've emailed Sr. Mary Emily to see how everything went, but she hasn't responded. It's a VERY busy time for them now, not only with all the cermonies and schools starting up again, but also the Knights of Columbus Convention is in Nashville right now, with thousands of Knights and their families converging on Nashville, along with a hundred Bishops and Cardinals and even more priests, AND Cardinal Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State!

I've been keeping track of it all on my blog, This is for Glory. Check it out!

That early! Wow, I thought it was all closer to the Feast of St. Dominic. Good for them... yes, sometimes Sr. Mary Emily can be quite busy with all her emails. upsidedown.gif

Well, fond of the Benedictines as I am, I did send a modest donation down to the Dominican
Monastery of St. Jude in Alabama after getting a note from a former phatmasser who is receiving her habit today. saint.gif

I hear ya. We had a heat index of 107 today with like 100% humidity... and I was out in a for a bit of the day. sweeeaaaat.

Just heard back from Sr. Mary Emily!

She says they had an incredible day at the Motherhouse. Cardinal Bertone, who is in town for the Knights of Columbus Convention, came to visit them and brought greetings to them from Pope Benedict!! She seemed ecstatic.

She said that the photos of the recent ceremonies would be up in a couple days. Their nine new postulants entered 3 days ago and are doing well!

That's the news from the Nashville front!

HAPPY ST. DOMINIC!!!!!
Lioness For Christ
Well... I guess you can say I sorta "celebrated" I ordered two books from the library and was able to get them today--both Dominican! One is Holy Teaching which is a selected section of the Summa Theologica with some explanation... (let's see if it's not too over my head!) and Amata Means Beloved by you know who! wink.gif

And at work I was naming the seagulls after Dominicans...

There was Catherine, Rose, Dominic, Reginold, Pier Georgio, and Thomas... haha...
Deus_te_Amat

On that note, do any of you give regularly to a specific religious order? Or just maybe on special occasions?

I do give regularly to one Benedictine community here in Missouri. Since I became aware of Phatmass, I've also donated to some of the communities that have accepted Phatmass members, particularly the smaller and less publicized orders. I am able to do this now because all my kids are out of high school and college, so we have fewer kid-related expenses. We don't talk much about vocations in my parish, so I feel that participating by donation helps support all these new vocations around the country.
VeniteAdoremus
Well, since I'm broke and getting broker every year until I graduate, I keep it at donating time... And even that completely in my own interest, since the Blue Sisters are wonderful. smile.gif

Well... St. Dominic's feast day has come and gone. But in celebrating his order, I wanted to share with you the new and improved website of the (Central) Province of St. Albert the Great. HERE
I go to school with many/most of their brothers in formation and they are near and dear to my heart!

Hahaha. lol_pound.gif Yeah sorry about this year that I couldnt get a homily to you guys.

I have this tradition, three days before St. Dom's feast day, first day I do a story about him, second day I post pictures, and third day I write a homily on a trait or something that St. Dom showed and how we can apply it as Dominicans to our daily life. I spent St. Dominic's day at a monastery it was amazing, someone entered. Long story. thumbsup.gif
