Check out this YouTube video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d20nzljVYPM

I'm not sure if these monks were doing the Traditional Mass with an indult or not, but they're so full of joy!

My favorite part is the scene where the monk sings the "Salve Regina" to the cow smile.gif

"They're going to have a go, aren't they. They're going to try and get me." hehe.gif

That's a shame. sad.gif There are other monks in a remote part of Scotland, the Benedictines of Pluscarden, who are renowned for their simplicity and austerity and who are in good standing of the Church. Just in case anybody on PM is thinking of fleeing to the wilds of Scotland, Pluscarden would be a good place to look. wink.gif

I have a non-PM friend who is planning to do just that for a couple weeks soon. Of course, the fact that he is already in Edinburgh makes the escape a bit easier. I have another friend between Glasgow and Edinburg that I am trying to nudge into going there for a week's retreat there. I think the silence and solitude would be great for her.

do we know for a fact that they're SSPX?
Staretz
Yep.
their website has links to SSPX monasteries such as the benedictine community near Silver City in New Mexico. they also put out a magazine whereby they say the'll follow the lead of the SSPX leadership.

while i sympathize greatly with their reaction to the deplorable state of the Redemptorist Order and religious life in generall after 1968....they are directly connected (though not officially a part of) the SSPX, and, the Ukrainian Catholic (thus Eastern)part of the Monastic Community , is associated with Lviv, the Priest at that Parish is in open schism with the Ukrainian Catholic Church Patriarch..and after being there myself....i found has some pretty wild ideas..all very reactionary via disobedience........that being said...structurally the Monks have a nice monastic set up..
and ------Pluscarden!, not nearly the same lifestyle..BUT very very faithful sons of St. Benedict, prayerful, traditional, contemplative., hard working and will take Come and seers from N. Amertica, for 3 weeksalso have a cistercian/carthusian background influence!

Yep, they're SSPX-associated. They were founded (or re-founded) with approval of Edouard Cardinal Gagnon, archbishop of Montreal and visitator from Rome.

Ejames is referring to the founder of the Society of St. Josaphat, a traditional Ukranian rite community also associated with SSPX.
