It's from the movie, Francesco (1989) - which I haven't seen or even heard of until now.
The only one I've seen is Brother Sun Sister Moon (1972), which I like, though it is definitely of a hippy version of St. Francis, which is not very true to life. I've seen parts of the black&white Flowers of St. Francis (1952), which is good - a collection of stories based on the book, The Little Flowers of St. Francis.
The latest one is St. Francis (2002), out of Italy - the one recently featured at Ignatius Press. But I've heard it's not the best.
Others include St. Francis of Assisi (1961) & the one by St Luke Productions (ones who made the Therese movie)

I believe so. It was originally just for the little Portiuncula chapel, so extending it to any and all Franciscan churches was already a stretch.
Not anymore. It can now be gained at any Catholic church.

It's from the movie, Francesco (1989)
...its the only movie about St Francis that i like....though it is an artistic take, like many others , takes liberties. and is the only movie shown and promoted in Assisi by the Friars there..(not that that necessarily is a good thing, considering),....there is an English one. or an dubbed Italian one..Mickey Rourke is very good.
i was given a copy from someone who bought the English one, brand new off of Ebay for 2 dollars! like here

personally i cant stand Brother sun Sister Moon...., i remember once Father Groeschel saying, half jokingly as usuall, "anyone who loves that movie, can not join our Brothers!"..

.. haven't seen it in years though .. that's funny what Fr. Groeschel said! the film was watched amongst a Missionary mixed community with me,(though all Europeans) as well as my own mom..so...
i dont see nudity in the film in any gratuitous sense, thats the reality of the story though,, st Francis making a brother who was afraid to preach go to the cathedral nekd and preach!..for example , but you never see EVERYTHING......one later sees just the buttocks of Mickey Rourke re enacting the truth of St Francis getting naked and running penitentially and 'Fool for God' like,in the snow, coveing homself in it.dealing with his temptations....90% from behind from behind and fleeting and in context a wonderful scene!..making a little snow family!.....the striping before the Bishop is contextual decent integrated- nothing wrong.......but the war between Assisi and Perugia,bloody violence, that is far more damaging to the psyche i think... burying people alive in pits, and some of the bloody bits, may be much for under 14...but the whole movie due to its theme, and intensity is really for oh, over 14 years and Catholic.. i like that it is lively, whole, organic ..not sugary..but earthy, gritty.mystic, ..he lived in violent intense, corrupt and confusing times....but with Dvd's
its easy to skip short scenes you know....actually they show the whole movie on repeat in Assisi on a large screen in the Friars Basilica Bookstore alllll day long.....so.....
geesh imagine if Mel Gibson made a film about Francis..would be Restricted!..
PS, i have a European Edit, but i know the USA edition has 28 minutes edited out...dont know what that is....

yes, i first saw it in Italian, and thought wow, those american actors sure speak Italian well....but its orginally in english..
