Ahhh, the chanted Latin office!
Whenever I see these videos I always feel like something of an intruder when there are shots of the inside of the monastery - let alone inside an individual's cell. Of course it's an enormous privilege to be able to film there (and to see it) but combined with all that, watching it gives me the shivers.

Thank you for sharing the video smile.gif

When I was a child we used to spend a couple of weeks of our summer holidays at Kergonan (as I grew up I was surprised to learn that other people's families didn't spend their holidays in convents of enclosed Benedictine nuns!). They are a wonderful community. Please keep them in your prayers as they had a major fire last year that completely destroyed their Church, and they are still waiting for the insurance companies to agree on costs so that they can begin rebuilding

You can see photos of the aftermath of the fire and news of the rebuilding (in French) on their special site

Thank you! You always post great material!

It's wonderful to see that there is still enclosed communities helping make the world a better place, one prayer at a time.

Yes, of course, IF you are talking ones similar to the ones in the Video?
and not semi-active Sisters..but traditional-cloistered (with Latin) Benedictines
you have
Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (who are of the exact same Congregation-Solesmes- as in the video and, as Clear Creek, though Clear Creek is again of a different stream ,hehe, within the Solesmes Congregations per Liturgics)

Very true. There are also Poor Clares in Alexandria, the Mother is pretty spunky:) But I think that I am being called to a contemplative/active order.

There are a number of OSB's with no outside apostolate who sing the office:

www.petershampriory.org.

Our Lady of the Rock-- http://www.rockisland.com/~mhildegard/

--in San Juan Islands of Washington State. Founded by Regina Loudis and like them, wear full habit, sing office in Latin with Gregorian chant. Raise rare breeds of animals and arts and crafts.

St. Walburga in Virginia Dale CO --www.walburga.org

Growing, full habit, sung mass and Office, mixed English and Latin. Retreats, farming, altar breads.

And others which sing the office in English or English and Latin:

Our Lady of the Desert, the companion order to Christ in the Desert, which Staretz is entering. They are small, moving elsewhere in NM for more land, multinational. Modified Benedictine habit. Chant the DO in Greg Chant in English. www.ourladyofthedesert.org.

Our Lady Queen Monastery Tickfaw, Louisiana
http://www.ourladyqueenmonastery.org/

Small-5 nuns in the chapel picture, but have postulants. Modified habit, sing full office-don’t know what in. Retreat house.

Sisters of St. Emma-- Greenburg PA

Monastery of St. Benedict Canyon, Texas--http://www.osbcanyontx.org/

-small community, modified habit, postulants, chants the seven hours in English; ministry retreats.

One house of Cistercian nuns, a branch of the Benedictines, sings the office in Latin using the Cistercian chant. Growing steadily.

And the Trappistines are in five different houses in the US. They sing the seven hours, but it’s not clear in what chant or what language.

i might add that as far as French/Latin, there are 3 Cloistered Benedictine Nuns Abbeys in Quebec,Canada,
- and while we are at it i will give a plug for the Cloistered Poor Clares Franciscans whos latest Postulant just became a Novice!. and have retained the grill etc, and seem to be restoring over the last year a more traditional outlook, out here in Mission, BC ,(Vancouver Suburb) ( who have adoration set up like Mother Angelicas old chapel) and who live in the woods up the hill from me next to the Benedictine Monks.(anything you find online about them is out of date and before the renewal of the Cloister) i will ask if i can take some photos of them next week, and will post in Nuns Pic Thread
