Reading Saint Faustina's 'Diary' of late, I was surprised to discover she was one of these as well. I was surprised to realize how many strong, strong Saints encountered this situation:

Saint Clare
Saint Bernadette
Saint Faustina
Mother Angelica

I'm sure there are more. Does anyone know? So many young discerners encounter this among their parents, it might be encouraging to know this has been going on since religious life began and we have many sister saints to pray for us, who understand.

My favorite Saint story involving an opposed parent is that of St. Catherine of Siena. She cut off her hair to avoid marriage and then served as a servent for several years without complaint. (She was actually given more tasks than a servent, and she STILL managed to spend all of her free time alone in her "cell" of a room in prayer.)
TotusTuusMaria
St. Teresa of Avila (Her father opposed. She had to run away. She said it was the hardest thing she ever had to do)

St. Rose of Lima

St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Agnes of Assisi

St. Agnes of Prague

St. Margaret Mary

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

St. Joan of Arc (Her parents opposed at first her vocation to save France)

Bl. Mary of Jesus Crucified

St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi

Didn't St. Francis's parents oppose it?

St. Thomas Aquinas is a great story... when he came home with the Dominican habit on, his family locked him up in a room and kept trying to persuade him to say he would leave the Order. Finally his mother (or another of them, depends on where you read the story perhaps) in a last ditch attempt sent a "woman of ill repute" in and he seized a branch from the fire, drove her out and burned a cross into the door with it. After that he escaped with some level of consent from his family.

St. Oda (Norbertine) was very strong and brave. She considered disfiguring herself to avoid an arranged political marriage. Her biographer says that Oda was the best of the Order at her time, both men and women.
