Full Version: Cloistered Convents In Rome?
phatmass phorum > Phormation > Vocation Station
claustral
Hey all,

After feeling less of a *tug* to the religious life over the last year I am experiencing a renewal of a calling.

I am in Rome until the 26th and looking for convents to visit. Do any of you have suggestions?

Am especially looking for cloistered convents.

Please reply with addresses if you have them!

If you'd like a little ride to Assisi, you'll find the Poor Clares, of course......and there is also a monastery of Benedictine nuns just about in the heart of town. I wish I could remember the name of the monastery...I attended the Office there when I was in Assisi - anyone out there know their name?

Bit of a ride but worth it just to get to see Assisi, IMO.

The Tyburn Benedictines have recently opened a house in Rome. The Monastery of Our Lady of the Eucharist is in the Via Cardinal Bofondi, off the Via Aurelia.

Mater Ecclesiae Monastery--the only monastery of cloistered nuns at the Vatican--founded by Pope John Paul II in 1994. It is unique in that different cloistered religious take turns occupying it for about 5 years each. It is currently staffed by Benedictine nuns from a number of places around the world.

There are Augustinian nuns at the church of Quattro Martiri Coronati (Four Holy Crowned Martyrs). Across the hallway, also, at least last year, there were sisters of a new Congregation, the Little Sisters of the Lamb, with a habit like the Dominican but in blue, with tie-on kerchiefs for veils.

There are also Dominican nuns somewhere near the city--I don't remember where, but if you go to Santa Maria sopra Minerva (walk past the left side of the Pantheon and it'll be the big flat facade on your left), I know they probably have the address posted.

Then there are the active Suore Francescane dell'Immacolata--Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate. Here is the address:

Suore Francescane dell'Immacolata
Via G. Zanardelli 16
Roma 00186

It's walking distance from St. Peter's, down along the Tiber basically and then across. It's inside an apartment building, I guess they transformed a flat into a little convent. They will give you lunch if they're there smile.gif Maybe smile.gif At least, if you tell them you are there for a vocation.

I'll PM you the telephone number, seems it's best to call first as they are often out and about & there's only 5 or 6 of them there.
