I was surprised when I read that the Benedictine's celebrate the Solemnity of St. Benedict in March and today just a memorial to him.
But then I've seen many orders change the feast days of their patron or founder saint's days to another day. I learned from my discerning with the PCCs in Cleveland that they (the PCCs) celebrate St. Colette's day on Feb 7 when it's listed as March 6.
But we can certainly celebrate St. Benedict and others twice a year!
This is because March 21st is St Benedict's 'transitus' or being taken up into heaven and the date is pre-vatican 11, today's date has been kept for some years too but St Benedict was made Patron of Europe so was given today's date for it, it is a post-vatican 11 memorial, feast or solemnity depending on the order. We keep 21st March as a Solemnity ( as most Monastic Benedictines do) and today as a Feast. There are no set rules.
Happy Feast Day to you all, St Benedict pray for us, pax.
