I finally uploaded the video I took when I was visiting the Dominican sisters of St. Joseph in beautiful Lymington!

The sisters would probably like you to know that they almost all had colds when this was taken smile.gif Also, I shot it on a regular (if excessively cool - wish it were mine) digital camera, not a video camera, so the sound is pretty bad overall.

After the Salve, you can hear the hymn to St. Dominic. And yes, they do this every day, although normally not with cappas (this was the solemnity of the birth of St. John the Baptist).

(Oh, by the way, the two elderly guests are cousins of Sr. Margarita... and fortunately short enough that I could film over them without having to stand on anything smile.gif )

Thanks for posting this. I absolutely LOVE the Dominican way of chanting the Salve!

Just lovely!! Dominicans do this so very right, and who doesn't get goose bumps with the O Lumen?
VeniteAdoremus
Yes, I love the O Lumen!

I showed the vid to my father today... after three minutes he said "and this was without repetitions?" Apparently the Dominican form is even longer than the Benedictine Salve Regina which he's familiar with.

These sisters are great - if you want to be an active Dominican in a faithful community, but not a teacher or nurse, write to Sr. Michelle. She's very nice. And they accept older vocations - their novice is in her forties, and the incoming postulant is 42 smile.gif

Beautiful! I love that version of the Salve. pray.gif Is it a Dominican tradition to chant this version in their processions? The Monastic Family of Bethlehem always sings this one after Vespers in the evening (Compline is prayed in solitude). I wonder if it's something they took from their foundress, Sr. Marie, who was a cloistered Dominican.

I'm quite sure that's where they got it, because yes, this is the "Dominican mode". The Nashville Dominicans sing the same mode, I believe, and the men of the English province certainly do (proof!).
