From the Dominican Life website (http://www.domlife.org/):

New Orleans Dominicans Begin Evacuation

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- August 29, 2008 --In anticipation of the expected landfall of Tropical Storm Gustav, Dominicans from three congregations and the friars are preparing to evacuate New Orleans. This comes on the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The DLC offices were notified that the Dominican friars, St. Mary's Dominicans and the Eucharistic Missionaries were beginning to move out of the area. The Adrian Dominicans are heading to Raeligh, NC, after just dedicating a newly renovated house that will serve as a permanent presence in New Orleans.

At least 51 people died in southwestern Haiti and eight were killed in neighboring Dominican Republic as Gustav passed through Wednesday, officials there said. The storm is currently over Jamaica and is expected to grow into a category 3 hurricane. According the latest reports from CNN: Federal and state agencies along the U.S. Gulf Coast were activating plans and moving resources in anticipation of what Gustav may bring, with mandatory evacuations possible as soon as Saturday in some coastal areas lying in the "cone of uncertainty" issued by the hurricane center.

We pray for all those who have felt the impact of this storm in the Caribbean. Please keep all of the people along the US coast in your prayers.

Lafourche parish is under a mandatory evacuation.
On http://www.wdsu.com/video/17347538/index.html are saying that Lafourche is going to take the brunt of the storm, and Lockport is in that parish.

Of course continued prayer for all that are and will be affected by this storm that they are calling 'the storm of the century'.

THis storm is actually going to go through East Texas, which is where I live. THank goodness I'll be out of town this week, but lets pray for everyone there. There's a good chance of severe flooding.
Saint Therese
Um... I really concerned about them, my peeps, the nuns.
Hopefully they'll evacuate to Lufkin.
DOes anyone know?

------Official Update-----
I spoke with a sister from the Monastery in Lufkin. She told me she talked to Mother Mistress. Mother Mistress and Reverend Mother are staying there at the monastery in Lockport, but they sent the novitiate away for safety.
THe help of your prayers is greatly appreciated.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor is the Patroness of Louisiana and New Orleans. A little prayer for her intercession on a beautiful city and state would be appreciated. My family is down there.

It looks like Ike is going to be headed to either southern Louisiana or Texas, and is stronger than Gustav.
DominicanPhilosophy
Today at the closing of Mass, Father announced that Gustav, Hannah, and Ike have missed us, but all three have hit our twin parish in Haiti, destroying all the trees, almost all the homes, and leaving 200+ of our Christian brothers and sisters dead. Very sad news, to say the least. Please keep everyone affected in your prayers!
