So, you know this novel thing I'm doing?

I decided my main character is going to be working at a TV studio in Manhattan. Creative license and all that. Never mind that I have absolutely NO idea what that would entail.

SO, whenever you have time, if you could:

My main character is fresh out of college. What sort of position would she be in with such little experience? How does she work her way up the totem pole? How can I make this juicy?

All I know is the writing side of this. All I do is write the material, and you guys do the rest.

well, seeing as how she's going to be in manhattan...she gonna be pooooooooooooooooooor. lol. (unless she is getting money from somewhere else). most broadcasting internships are unfunded or don't pay much. um...they only last a few months. after which, they may offer you a job. it is EXTREMELY hard to get a job in broadcasting fresh out of college. it's better to try for an internship and get to know people and then try for jobs.

if she wanted to be in front of the camera, she'd be doing small pieces for the station....that may or may not run. she has to get them and edit them herself as well. basically, do all of the crap work. they have to dress nicely in front of the camera and be ready to go whenever.

Maybe I will just make her older and have her working a good job.

How about she's basically the gofer assistant to one of the narcissistic anchors. She gets treated as invisible, so ends up being privy to much juicy gossip. She hears something that so upsets her, she runs to the confessional for help.

As you may have guessed I have no life, however I still consider this topic my life. The question remains of how I can have no life, and still have a life in this topic, thereby raising questions regarding the definitions of life and death, and possibly generating a paradox over these issues. Of course, the scientists will immediately observe the presence of breathing and heart rate, as well as the fact that my intellectual capabilities are apparently enough to combine words out of the English vocabulary into correct and coherent sentences, as signs that I indeed do have an intelligent human life both within and outside this topic, further complicating matters.

so how's the story coming along?

Really well, thankfully. Last week was like pulling teeth, but I hit the halfway mark (25K) a while back and everything started to open up.

I ended up putting her in journalism, at the risk of making it sound Mary Sue-ish (autobiographical). It's competitive, I know how it works, and it makes for lots of drama.

Next year, I need to start researching earlier.
