I saw it over a year ago but didn't see the whole thing to get the full gist of it. Any opinions on it? I wasn't sure what to make of it.

Been a long time since I saw Agnes of God. It was one of my favorite movies for a while... but it's pretty brutal. If you didn't watch it to the end, you might not realize that.

I think the sisters in the convent are portrayed very well -- normal and happy and real. Agnes herself though? Hard to say if she's insane or blessed (possibly both).

When I think of describing the plot, it sounds really, really horrible, heh. But I didn't have that impression at all when I watched it! unsure.gif

I liked the nuns too. I especially liked how when Sister Agnes was ashamed of menstrating that the prioress told her that it was a perfectly natural process and that she should thank God that motherhood is even a possibility for her.

It's really Sister Agnes that's and her situation that are disturbing though, and not all of the questions that we have as viewers are answered. I wish that the critic of http://www.decentfilms.com would write a review of it.

I think it did show some things that even Catholics don't realize about nuns like how the Mother Superior had been married and had children. I think a lot of people still think you have to be a virgin to become a nun. I also really liked her confrontation with the psych about how she could spot an ex-Catholic, and did some nun in the past tell her she couldn't do something. I think we do have a bunch of former Catholics who left for really trivial reasons like that.

I really liked this movie and I've seen it a few times. I like the scene where the shrink and the MS go up into the bell tower and the MS sneaks a smoke, and the joking that follows that.

The movie subject matter is weird, there's no doubt about it, but there is something life-affirming and mystical about it, as if God is working through the lives of each person despite the scandal that is in their midst. Clearly, Agnes was insane but in some way the movie is not even really about Agnes, but rather about the Jane Fonda character.

That was my favorite part, where they were discussing what kinds of things the various saints would have smoked. Did you get the idea that the Fonda character would have gone back to the church after?

I loveeee that movie!

I'm not really sure what's going on with Agnes, but I think it's truthful... and a decent film.
