Amen!

I second that! From the lottery to the helping family to giving the rest to a vocations fund.

:scratchhead: Maybe I should start playing the lottery...

I did precisely just that before entering the convent the first time :-). I went with my mom, my sister, and my niece. We had the time of our lives -- especially with my mom who had never been before either.

I also went and visited with family in PR who I hadn't seen in years. Since I expected not to see them for a very long time I thought that this was important as well.

Maybe God will somehow grant me the grace to go to Disneyworld with my mom and sister, too. None of us have ever been. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school my dad would always say "When you graduate, we'll all go to Disneyworld! Keep getting good grades and we'll go!" Well, I was always on Honor Roll with the hopes of Disneyworld in mind...

And after reading your post, I think I'd also want to go back to the Philippines to visit my dad and step-family one last time.

You know to me the visit was important. I don't see my extended family all that often, and it is important. Some communities have a very strict visitation policy, and it is more difficult to visit family who is far away (especially if the community is covering the cost). So definitely consider this possibility.

Blessings!

I know this seems somewhat random (I was just reading the "Good Movies with a Vocation Message" thread), but one of the "last things" I did before entering the convent was get a Netflix subscription.

I thought I'd never watch another movie or TV show again. :tvhappy: So, I wanted to watch the entire "X-Files" series before I entered. :nerd: In addition, I think I might have watched every Disney movie ever made. :P Hahaha!

Funny enough, I didn't find out about "saint" movies until I entered the convent. Needless to say, I found out the order I entered watched movies somewhat frequently (maybe once a month or so -- it was considered a treat of sorts). From "The Mission" and various "lives of the saints" to "The Passion" (every Good Friday) and even to various Disney movies and... ... "The Princess Bride". :duel:

I guess I'd like to watch a good bit of the movies listed in the "Good Movies with a Vocation Message" before I entered another community. Especially some of the newer Italian ones. :))

And I'd want to see the last season of Lost.

(However, to be quite serious, if I could enter today without having done any of the "bucket list", I totally would. I guess this is nice if you have some time to kill and some funds to raise. )

Actually this wasn't on my list but I just heard that my brother got tickets to the Vancouver Olympics speed and figure skating events and I'll be joining his family there for a couple days--his treat. One thing is that I really want to feel like how it is to live alone, and I don't mean like a student's dorm room, but an apartment. To decorate it myself, buy the food I want, and have it be mine. I could have a piano, and work out inside.

That might never happen though.

That is pretty funny with all the movies!!

I know that obviously none of these things are necessary to do before entering but I do have some time to kill and the ability to do things that would be fun within reason of course!

One of my friends suggested getting a manicure/pedicure since that's something that would not happen after entering the convent!

Probably Vegas. You might not want to go there after you're in a habit.

Here in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, if any priest or religious crosses teh doorstep of any of the casinos in the archdiocese, they are instantly excommunicated, and can only be unexcommunicated by the archbishop. Not a meeting I would want to have to call ;)

Wow seriously? I hadn't a clue... at least not about the excommunication thing. It's one thing to perhaps be exclaustrated or even 'defrocked' but excommunicated from the entire Catholic Church?

Nonono, being excommunicated is less than being defrocked, because it's supposed to be grave but temporary--you realize  Oh Snap, that was NOT good! and then you go to the Church on your hands and knees and ask to be received back. Then if your penitence is real, you are. :))

It's often referred to as a "medicinal penalty" because it's meant to HELP your soul realize what a bad state you're in.

Gotcha. That makes sense. I don't know the last time I actually read about anyone being excommunication... well, there were those African priests...

I was just thinking....

I'd rather like to learn to play the guitar before entering. I mean, I play the trumpet. And I kind-of-sort-of play the piano (I taught myself). But I would like to be able to play the guitar.
