"another Paraclete"

Nihil Obstat

John: 14: 15-17

15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father: and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever: 17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him. But you shall know him; because he shall abide with you and shall be in you.

What is meant by "another Paraclete"? This is what the Montanists used to justify their heresy, is it not? How are we to interpret this passage?

Thanks. :)

The Greek word that is translated here is Parakletos. It basically means advocate or helper. In Greece, it is the person we might call a public defender in a court room who pleads our case or intervenes on our behalf. John used it several times in his Gospel, always in reference to Christ or the Holy Spirit. The word same Greek word is used in 1John 2:1, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7-11, and Revelations 12:10. Read them and think about how those passages work together.
