Hi AngelofMary.Welcome to the phorum. If you'll read back through earlier posts from this thread you'll see that I've posted something explaining why I don't feel it would be appropriate to discuss anything to do with community affairs or members in the community. Its not my place to speak for them, anyways. :)

I understand your discomfort perfectly, Saint Therese--and I'm glad you felt free enough not to respond to questions when you did not feel comfortable doing so. But, if you ever see Sister Agnes, please let her know that allowing outsiders to "intrude" on the privacy of her vesting in the habit was very thoughtful of her, and a wonderful way to share the beauties of relgious life. There are lots of "strangers" who now feel a bond with her, and are hoping only the best for her future.

If, for some reason, Sister Agnes is no longer with this community, I hope that she has found peace, either in secular life or with another community. The religious life is a blessed one, but it is not the only way that God calls us to serve. Our prayers and good wishes are with Sister Agnes, wherever God has taken her since the video was filmed.

I really do appreciate the feeling that people have re Sr. Mary Agnes. I think the investiture video was truly beautiful, and I have to say it was important in my own discernment. So I really can say I understand how people feel about it.
I just feel I have a solemn duty to be circumspect in order to protect the community. If anyone doesn't understand this all they have to do is read the thread about "Dominican Habits".
;)

Ya'll please continue to keep me in your prayers.
God bless you!

Dearest Prayer Pal,

Did I luck out or what!! You are in my prayers each day as you prepare to enter. I will be living in with the Basilians as of April 17th and will be praying for you from the monastery. Please keep me in your prayers.

with love in Christ,
Anya

Of course I'll be remembering you in my prayers, and congratulations on the live in! That's great. May the Lord give you light to discern His will for you, and may the Mother of God watch over you and help you with her prayers.

YAY, KAYLA!!!

I am so excited. I love Dominicans, though religious life isn't my call...maybe someday I'll have TOP at the end of my name. ;)

Praying for you! Pray for us, too.

Some beautiful pics, in addition to the ones mentionedvabove, have been added pholks!

The new pictures are beautiful, too. Thank-you.

I hope this isn't the wrong thing to say, but I really like the fact that the "enclosure grille" (is that the right term?) in the chapel of the Lockport nuns is made of beautiful, light wood, not metal bars. It has the same effect of enclosing the nuns as metal bars does, but seems less forbidding.

I know perfectly well that enclosed sisters are enclosed by choice, and are free to leave. The grille is intended not to keep the nuns in, but to keep the world out.

However, despite knowing this rationally, pictures of metal enclosure grilles, and the sound of the metal doors closing reminds me of prison. (Sometimes in videos you can see and hear the sound of the metal door closing.) It's simply an emotional reaction. I know perfectly well that these nuns are not imprisoned nor do they feel imprisoned.

I suspect Catholics get used to it and never think twice about it.

But, as a non-Catholic, I am still getting used to the image. And, I suspect that the image could contribute to the misunderstandings that many non-Catholics have about enclosed Orders of Nuns. I am in NO WAY suggesting that Orders should change their traditional practices of metal grilles--simply that I had a very positive reaction to the very lovely wooden grilles in the chapel of the Lockport nuns. It made enclosure feel like a positive choice.

I realize that Anglican orders of enclosed nuns also use metal grilles (at least as far as I know). It's just that I have never seen pictures of the enclosure grille of an Anglican Order, and suspect that I would have the same initial emotional reaction to the metal bars.

I also suspect that the metal bars remind me of scenes in (often tacky) old movies set in historical times, in which a young girl is forced to enter the convent against her will, even though the old movies have nothing to do with the way young women decide today to enter an enclosed Order.
